I've been wondering lately why I bother keeping my main in a player corporation? If your main income is from production and mining as mine is then there really is no need to be in a corporation at all. My corp has been the recipient of a number of war decs recently.
Being in a corporation makes us a target, disrupts our business and as a response in order to keep things going I've moved characters to NPC corps and created new characters in NPC corps to the point that I thought why aren't we all in NPC corps and we can then dispense with all these silly war decs altogether?
In a corp I can have a POS but then I thought there really is no need for one, what can't I do in a station that I'm doing in a POS? Also POS have terrible roles settings that make them vulnerable to dishonest players.
So... has anyone else out there running mining corporations decided to close their doors and move to NPC corps in order to mine and prosper war-dec free? I know nothing in eve is risk free but cutting war-decs out of the equation must be a big step. Just create a private channel for your former corp members and away you go |

OP = valid question.
The "M in MMO" concept could be engineered better as well. You would HAVE to communicate with people better. You would select groups of people based on consistency rather than what Corp they are in.
Being able to communicate with people streamlines what you want out of Eve which could lead to setting up POS's somewhere "better" depending on what you want out of Eve rather than because so-and-so is "CEO". |

Actually your not wrong, for the most part you bennifit most from simply staying in the NPC corp and removing most frustrations that come from player corps in highsec. This of course changes once you move out of highsec, but as long as you stay in highsec, it's a solid choice on most levels.
There is the drawback of 11% tax in npc corps, but if all your doing is manufacturing and the like, this won't affect you. And then of course the inability of setting up a POS as you mentioned, but your also correct there in that POS's are no longer all that valuable now that slots have been totally removed and you can do BPO research and the like to your heart's content in a station without the all that fuel cost.
At the end of that day, as long as your not running missions in a NPC corp, the only thing you really lose, is a corp name. As long as you stay in highsec. |

On the one hand they say EVE is just a freeform sandbox. There are no rules, per se. THEN they have all these truisms like, "Don't be in an NPC corp, it'll ruin your game - or you'll never play the real game. They say, "Do what you want. It's a free EVE." Then they give you a list of stuff not to do.
So, there must be a lot of truisms. That's odd cause EVE and New Eden don't "really" exist, do they? I mean, if you try to drive to New Eden you have to pull your vehicle into your computer room, right? Then, these people get all bent out of shape about where cars belong (or motorcycles and semis).
Right now I have an ant crawling around inside my monitor that keeps reminding me my spaceship isn't real, but he is. I don't think he cares what corporation I'm in. I think he's more concerned that he's found his way into something, but can't find his way out. Be that as it may. That being said. All things being equal. Et cetera.
People who say don't be in NPC corps or you'll ruin YOUR game just hate it that they can't random war dec you in an NPC corp. They have half an hour to kill before they have to role play and do the James 315 don't like you thing, so they come here and type out truisms in one post while claiming there's no such thing in others.

It would make a little more sense if wardecs were a bit more granular. I've never seen it, but I hold fast to the delusion of corps someday fighting it out over conflicting economic interests rather than just for something to do.
Perhaps the wardec system could be factional based. Perhaps CONCORD could allow a conflict pass to be purchased for a single system, constellation or region. For every successive amount of territory targeted, the wardec cost would go up significantly. To compensate, small territory wars would be very cheap, even against very large organizations. As far as the empire system lords are concerned, these are just squabbles between burgs or nobles. They have no economic interest in monopolies or wanton brigandry otherwise.
This would more closely parallel the system we have now where suicide ships patrol systems like Niarja or other chokepoints, but instead would be more like neighborhood gangs disallowing some corps or alliances to come through their territory unmolested. Patronage is the oldest form of government.
Groups like Marmite or Code. could sharpen their focus down to a range of territories instead of paring down their war lists. It could save them some cash and probably wouldn't affect the bulk of their operations.
Groups of rival mining corporations could find ways to force the competition out of their home systems. Obviously, we need mechanics to reward industrial players for actually being in corps. This means docking taxes, and market advantages. Starter corps should only get cheap docking in starter corp stations. Everywhere else, they gotta pay dear.
We can leave the total war mechanic to lowsec and nullsec. Most of the current hubs will remain hazardous, which may actually promote the creation of additional empire hubs. |

The main reason I've seen for not being in an NPC corp is you are not in a chat channel full of idiots. The other reasons are POS operations and reduced taxes.

They are all superior to high sec facilities. (We can argue over if it's competitive with the upkeep free Null sec outposts, since you pay the same sov fee regardless of the status or even presence of an outpost the outpost adds no more costs therefore is free, but that's a different question.) So that is why to be in a player corp as a high sec miner/manufacturer.
It requires getting enough people involved to make it worth the fuel cost of course, but you can do that. |

Even if you are working from an NPC station, shared corp hangar access with your alts is really nice if you do manufacturing /inventing.. grants all of your characters access to the raw materials and blueprints to significantly reduce logistics and increase your production output. Also, you can give yourself cool titles and medals...

Any benefits that come from private corp in high sec are exclusive to characters that never undock so plan an Alt accordingly. It's true of Null corps as well if you get right down to it. It's why there are holdings corps in every alliance.

Take all your players out of the player corp but 1, make sure to leave one in.
They paid 50 mil to wardec you, congrats you wasted their money now waste their time and some more money.
Take that last character and go store him in some wormhole for the wardec and make sure you peridoically log in everyday. They have your character marked, they will constantly be paying locater agents to find you, just dont be locatable.
Furthermore find a way to afk on that character in the wormhole (maybe cloak). This will waste theit time and multiple locater agent trys to find you. Waste their time liberally, let them get the point, otherwise they will just rewardec you. Every time your afk be in game (on that charcter). At the end of that month they will wish they never knew you, and wont bother you again. |

Lets say you form a Band of Brothers and form a corp
You get wardecced. You get disrupted. You watch your POS burn.
Lets say you undocked and died every time. You never really gained more ISK than you lost.
Awful. Just... an endless row of gruesome experiences
But lets say...
You enjoyed all that interaction. All those people trying to play a game with you.

I found the same issue when I started and I believe that something needs to change in regards to a mining or peaceful "highsec corporation" because the whole concept is preyed upon by baby pirates and gankers.
we found that the 11% tax is a major reason people leave NPC and the fact they have little real avenue to make serious isk in certain play styles. Also their is an attached distain for players who do not join up to a PBC (player based corp)as soon they drop corp I personally believe that this is due to the high level of recruiter toons in npc corps attempting to create an environment in which gaining new pilots is now fairly simple, your not even playing eve until you are in a pbc
I am in complete support of the OP but issues you may need to overcome is it will be a slow heavy grind doing it on your own, you will have few trusted contacts in the future which assist in higher level/isk gameplay and that you will be targeted a the least risky target opportunity for up and coming pirates and gankers
We at the Scope Project (channel under same name) attempt to bypass the npc failings by creating a highly social environment while in the same breath maintaining our relationships with the NPC as you are unable to be wardecced.
On top of this we create slave corporations for the mechanics that we are missing as Npc's we also provide the necessary opportunities to allow "carebears" to experience lowsec Null and W/h space by replacing their ships in NPSI roams.
we train our miner/indy/haulers to "bite back" with ship fits that encourage resistance against gankers as we also have true gankers/awoxers/spias in the Project they can instruct you in the avenues in which simple attack/exploits can be used against you.
They do this because they enjoy the thrill of finding new exploits and having resistance gives them a whole new level of gameplay...in the end we are all still players in a game

I wouldn't quite say they are "useless" when the real issue is a member roster of "useless" players. Being in an NPC corp will not make you safe. Sure, it will avoid the war decs..but the thing is, EVERY corp should have the capacity and willingness to protect their assets and interests. If you do not, you do not belong in a corp or should find one that does. If you're not willing to defend or fight for what you have...do you truly deserve to have it?

If I had a nickel for every time someone said women don't play eve, I'd have a bag of nickels to whack the next person who said it..

It isn't really like that. Each area of space offers different restrictions and challenges. Suggesting that hisec is something only new players should use / enjoy shows a lack of understanding of the game as a whole.
