Used to be, when you completed a long series of post-tutorial starter missions, you'd be rewarded with an implant which could be sold for enough starter cash to buy and fit a combat frigate.
Last couple of days, I've started new characters in multiple races and each one has been dumped onto the spacelanes penniless after a 2-part starter mission. 6500 isk is not enough to buy a ship that can do level 1 combat missions.
Please bring back the implant reward or some other way of adequately funding new characters. I seriously would not be playing this game if I had had to mine in an ibis to buy my first ship.

Yep, those missions have been taken out. Their replacements are said to be coming out with Kali.

I have a new character whose 1st referral from the 1st agent, wasn't even an agent. The 1st agent put her in the P&P for me, but when I tried to talk to her, "The character you've selected is not an Agent."
I petitioned and a GM set his standings to Amarr to 1.0 so this character could start using regular agents. Fortunately this character has uncle Guillame, but a newcomer to the game would be reduced to begging or sitting in a station for a week training starter skills so the rookie ship can do level 1s. Plus, I also wanted my newbie implant, dammit!
(or the mining thing, forgot about that option)

Wow you guys used to have it easy, huh? After tutorial I think I had just enough to get a Bantam and a couple civvy mining lasers/expanded cargos, and off to the belts I went.

Was it uphill both ways?

Well, I joined the day "this broken agent is a feature" patch was installed. It was kind of discouraging to try to find an agent, and get bounced back by each and everyone of them, even the very low quality ones. As a brand new, cluless player, I found it was a heartwarming welcome from the developpers. :)
I did some misery mining... what else can you do.
Hey, at least one year from now we'll be brag about how easy the new newbs have it easy, and how hard it was for us to start without implants or "next generation" missions. :)
