Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
First off I'm not a regular poster, but an avid reader, second I'm a 1.6 year player and this story isn't really about Mole, but my Alt. The reason I did the following was because I have gotten a bit bored with the game, or my gaming style at the least. Ok, enough with the preamble let's continue.
About four months ago I created an Alt, first time I'd done that since I really don't see the use of them for the most part. Mole, which is my main for the most part is a carebear who prefers the safety of Empire space. He mines, runs missions and produces market items. Now, he has been in the ocassional fight and has both lost and won them. Plus he's pirated once or twice and been ganked as well when mining (crap!).
But, enough about Mole for now. My Alt decided instead to try something different. It flew to low-sec space in a T1 cruiser, something easily replaceable, and started tooling around. First off, my Alt flew through lot's of old haunts that Mole used to use for low-sec mining, even visiting the lone spot where poor Mole got ganked.
After that my Alt decided to visit a few dead-end systems and scare the miners. No plans to shoot, at this time anyway. Lo and behold there was a Retriever. So the Alt swoops around within the edge of the belts at 100k ... just to see the miner flee. In pure horror this guy just keeps mining a while, then gets his hauler and unloads. In plain view! So, I thought, maybe a Macro ... But that can't be, this guy is part of a local Industrial corp, and I did see him talk in local yesterday. Does he not care? Is he playing with local minimized? Heck, just look out your window dude, I'm right here!
Shaking it's Alt head, it heads out and pegs a couple of high-gank systems. Assuming here it will surely end in a roaring ball of fire. My Alt sits in two of these systems for three days. Three days warping from planet to planet, and even to a few gates. Still, no interest. Do I need a sign at this point? ôHapless noob looking for a hole in my pod!ö
So, after a week or so of this, I log off my Alt in a safe-spot in one of these pirate havens and ponder why all of this, or lack of this, transpired. I mean Mole is risk aversive yes. But even he enjoyed the occasional fight. And it used to be somewhat common to get into one, without intending to. What's happened? Seems as if no one wants to really put out the effort anymore. Or was my Alts T1 noob ship considered to low in profit to waste the ammo and time?
Few things my Alt made note of. Most of these players were in either battleships or HAC's. Would this contribute to their lack of interest? Not seeing any challenge? Or did they really have a heart and didn't want to pod the new player? Now, I know some of these players, and a year ago they would not have hesitated to shoot. What changed their perception? Are pirates and pvp players starting to really get more selective? Or is something in the game making people less interested in this form of game play?
For those of you who read this in it's entirety, both Mole and his Alt thank you.

Some people just dont see the point in getting flagged for 15mins by killing a noob ship. But i would prob not hesitate if you landed next to me and i did not have to look around for you otherwise its normally just not worth the effort to scan for you and warp around chasing you.

From what i've experienced lately, people run from just about anything, resulting in less pvp action for us pirates. Then us pirates either A) Get suicidal about finding a fight or B) Stop logging on because this game is boring when people warp out from you in your shuttle.

PvP in Eve can be pretty annoying, because you can basicly just avoid danger most of the time even in low sec.

Great, thanks folks. That's pretty much what I am seeing too with the effort thing. It really can be a lot of work now days. I guess I'm just out of the loop now versus 9-10 months ago. Back then having a fight seemed so much easier.
I guess your right as well about hunting, when there is bigger prey, or better rewards at the gates, why spend time and effort hunting down a little T1 frig? Unless your just bored to tears.
Oh, and to another question that was asked, do you see yourself logging on less because of all the effort? Or just sitting in station gabbing the whole time? (thats what I end up doing most of the time)

Think you may be right Jimmy. Anyway, I did find something interesting to do that is providing some different game play for me. That and ruining the Macro's day.
Bumped one for 15 minutes last night. Stupid thing kept ****ing out new cans anyway, even mostly empty cans. I moved the stuff in my cans and used them as bait for other players. |

If i ever got caught and i was in a position where i could fight, even if i'd lose, i'd probably go for it for the sheer fun of it lol.
But then i only fly cruisers and smaller at the moment so the loss wouldn't be too much of a hit ^^
