Ceptin' ones a Science/Engineering/Technology School and the other is an Ivy league Business/law School.
More to the point, I never heard of EVE Uni rejecting applications before, they seem pretty much open to all new players. |

It does happen on occasion, usually it's the spais and alts, or sometimes someone just isn't compatible. It's extremely rare for a new player to get rejected, and more often than not, it may be technical issue (standings with either of our jump clone corps, for example) and often those can be corrected.
In my time involved with Uni recruitment (Jan 2011 through Aug 2014) both as a recruiter and eventual director, our requirements have evolved to where we're very open and accepting even of more experienced players.
One thing I did notice is that for those who applied and did have something missing from their application it was often that they would just "give up" on the process, for example, not providing the correct API mask we need (we do provide all the details and a link to get it set up properly), and we'd just never hear from them again. And as Celine and Ralph have mentioned, just due to how popular we are and limited number of recruiting staff (they do volunteer their game-time to do the job) the process can seem long and frustrating to some. It has gotten a lot better over the years.
In short, it is rather difficult to get rejected by E-UNI, hehe.
To the more general point, there are lots of great corps out there to assist new players so this shouldn't be about E-UNI alone. We welcome all to our public help channel "E-UNI" in game (no outside recruitment there please) and anyone can attend our classes and join us on our Mumble voice comms. You don't have to be a member for a lot of our services, although as mentioned above, registration is required to access the private Mumble server (classes occur on our public Mumble server).
RvB is a really good bunch and you can't go wrong with them for PvP stuff.
Brave is also very popular and very active. They require a full API check and I don't know their process beyond that. They're one of the biggest organizations out there.
There are several active Factional Warfare groups, too, if you're interested in both PvP and the FW rewards.

An API key is simply benign pilot and/or corp information. There is no personal information involved at all. No one can access your account, or your in-game assets. They can only read what the API mask will provide them.
Most larger and corps worth being part of will ask for some form of API, whether it's a full API or select information.
They use this to check information for their own security. Any corp accepting pilots in that don't perform background checks including an API check of some form are just asking for trouble, and those corps probably aren't worth being in.
This is from the page where you create API keys:
Quote:What is an API key? What do I use it for?
The API key is a private code that identifies your account and allows third party programs and web sites to access information about your characters and corporations. Using this data, such utilities can improve your EVE experience by providing useful functionality such as wallet exports, skill training notifications, and other tools.
Is this safe? Can someone steal my account?
It is safe to provide your API key to applications and web sites as long as you are prepared to allow the application or web site to see your character and corporation information. You can specify which information is accessible for each customizable API key.
Sharing an API key does NOT give people access to your account while sharing your account password would. Therein lies the whole purpose of API keys. An API key only allows the recipient to view your character and corporation data but gives them NO control over it. They are NOT able to log in to the game or post on the forums with the API information. No part of the API key information is in any way generated from your account password - there is no way to calculate your password using this information.
This is the only safe way to give programs and web sites access to your data. Do not give out your account username or password to any person, program, or web site. Please keep in mind that doing so is a violation of the EULA and can lead to account termination.
I still don't like it.
If you are not certain that the web site or program asking for your API key is safe, please do not give it to them! You are responsible for any usage of the information obtained by using your API keys.
I gave someone my API key and now I want them to stop using it!
If you believe that someone is misusing your API key, you can delete it from the list above or simply change the Verification Code. Please note that all programs and web sites that are using your old API key information will no longer be able to access your data unless you provide them with the updated info or a new API key.
You can view API activity on your account by using the API Access Log. If you believe someone is misusing one of your API keys, please change the Verification Code or delete the API key from the list above.
Several of the very useful third party tools such as EVEMon, PyFa, Eve Fitting Tool, and such use API keys to help you get the most out of those very useful tools.
Of course you don't have to provide any corp recruiter/system any API key at all. You just won't get into any of them that ask for the information. |

They do. So I guess you'll just have to count all those off your "probable/possible" list of corps to try for. |

Well. API is only a read only thing.
But if you really dont want to give it out. Good luck in the NPC corps or in a ****** player corps filled with spies and awoxers. 99.99% of the corps ask for a full API or one with limited information. It is basically the same as the background check a real company does when you apply for a job (here they usually ask for proof of good conduct, which basically means that you have no criminal record).
now that I think of it.
Big chance you might be one too if you are that afraid to give an API.

Most places worth being in do.
There are corps that dont do it, they usually exist for less then 6 months cause they are destroyed from the inside out. Be through Awoxing, spies & wardecs or general theft.

Nope.
It is a code that they can use to get READ ONLY access to your account.
Things like:
What skills have you trained. what is your skillqueue what and where are your assets. who did you mail in game. who do you have added to your contacts. How much ISK is in your wallet. what and with who have you been trading stuff througj the market / contract. What other characters do you have on the account.
All kinds of things like that, but it depends what you enable and what they require to see.

Api is look only and I would ha 've serious reservations about joining a group that didn't ask for one, I have loads of stuff and I would rather loose it to my own incomitance than some blow-in just taking it from me when I had my guard down.
Anyone with something to lose will likely feel the same as in eve, once it's gone, it's gone.
