Hey all
I started like a month ago and am planning my next ship/line of ships.
I currently have a cruiser (caldari) and am not sure what to go next. I am thinking of the Assault ships as I like the frigate route, but plan to be able to fly a battleship one day
Are the assault ships good, for multiple scenario use ? (fighting, npc's etc etc)
Also, in the Caldari range, is there any major reason to get either the Harpy or Hawk - which is better ?
Much appreciated in advance
Am glad to be back playing

You said u like frigs so assaults are a good choice and the skills u need are gonna be cruisial for a battleship aswell. Another cool thing with frigs is that u also have interceptors and covert ops which give u much variety if u want something different. So if u like frigs a lot id say to go ahead and train for AF. As for the difference between the 2 ships u mentioned i simply dont know since i dont fly caldary hopefully someone more knowledgeable about em will help u w that.

The harpy is a long range railgun sniper, while the hawk is more like a super tanked kestrel. both are very good choises, and the only thing that really tips the scales in favour of the hawk is that youll need all the basis missile skills when you get a raven. So I would suggest a hawk, it has a better tank too. (tho I have never flown one, only harpy)

The conventional route for missile skilled Caldari pilots who want a do-it-all ship, and eventually get a Raven, is to train for a Carcal and then a Ferox (which is a rather good ship for new-ish players).
Something to bear in mind is that AFs are Tech 2 ships, hence you can't get very good insurance for them. I'd recommend you do Caracal then Ferox, and come back for AFs later, when you can better afford to lose them.

it really depends what kind of weapons you like. if you like sniping railguns, go for the Hawk, and wait for the Rokh that is released with Kali. if you like slow missiles that always hit, go for the Hawk. and later for the Raven.
but remember, Assault ships have a cr*p insurance payout. they cost somewhere around 20mil. but the insurance is something around 3mil (best one). while with a battleship (tier 2). they cost like 100mil, and the payout is 108mil (best insurance and this costs 32mil for a Raven)
Second sig removed, only 1 signature graphic please - Xorus ^_^WOOHOO!!! my Sig finally got nerfed... i'm 1337 now... |

Yeah, as well as the insurance thing, to fly an AF well (IMO) you need more skills than you'd need to fly a BC well and the BC is a bit less risk in L3 missions.
What I did (and I still think it's the right thing to do) is get into BS first and run L4s for money. Once you get a comfortable bank account, then start playing with AFs and the like. L4s will make you lots more money than doing missions in an AF.
