Could we have a way to switch between characters in the client - so that rather than having to restart the whole client and log in that we can simple change between characters in the same account?
I think this is needed for a game in which almost every player has multiple characters on same accounts... multiple accounts; you can keep logged in at the same time, but same account characters are needing attention in this area, especially since multiple training has made using them more frequent and necessary to switch between them. I am not finding that I am reclogging several times now to use alts so frequently that I am logging in and out more than I am playing the game on some occasions simply to grab or move or change something on one, then the next and then the next... and every time I have to restart the whole game.

There is a search funktion on the right corner in the forum. Use it.
And if you wanna change your char just relogg it-¦s not that hard.

I see the point. Technically there are two layers: Logging into your account (email + password) and choosing the character.
It is similar to an multi-user OS: You usually only want to start the computer once and then have the ability to switch between users. You don't want to restart your computer let alone server just to switch to root to make some trivial changes. |

CCP has specifically said in the past that this is not going to happen. They have specifically said in the past that usernames are saved and can be easily switched-between as a way to help speed the logging-in process. They have specifically said that there is an option to not close the launcher after the game has been started and that it is specifically there to let you instantly restart the client when you want to switch characters on the same account.
Additionally, this thread is horribly redundant even if it weren't horribly obsolete. |

Shame, Gaijin has a very handy "switch user" right in War Thunder, as many other games now have similar - but then again CCP is always slow to adapt to the trends when it's useful. It would be very nice if you could log in once, and then hit a button - switch character and return to the pick character window and choose another one... honestly I don't see what would be so difficult in that and it would be a useful feature... oh, wait, that is probably why it's not in the game...  |

The main reaosn is that CCP doesnt want to promote "playing an account" over playing a character...
You want to have disposable alts in your "alt char slots" go for it but you need to work for it a little...
Would i like this? Yes. Can i see why they dont? Yes. |

It would take the developers months to pump this out for a few seconds spared on your part.
As with any human, we must map out everything for the sake of living. So what happens when you put the same aspect in a game with random events? They go nuts trying to figure out how to predict and map out everything.

Actualy the main reason, as stated in this post by CCP Karkur (and has been stated many times by CCP Devs) is that the client and server code assume the character ID stays the same during a session. Rewriting the client and server code in such a way that characters (and as such character ID's) can change 'on the fly', would require a very large amount of coding to be done by a rather large team.
At CCP's discretion it might still be done in the future, but do not count on it being SoonGäó.
