Is it worth upgrading my system from a single core to a dual core?

Yes and no. The important question is, whaddya got?
Put it this way: I've got an AMD Opteron 2.0 GHz from roughly two years ago. I have no desire to upgrade myself, nor a reason to. It is the little processor that could, and continues to kick names and take arse on anything and everything I throw at it. Hell, I can run two instances of EVE with no issue and no lag. I can thus spend my money on things like beer, which presently improves my computing experience more than a CPU upgrade would.
It really depends on how you like your current performance. Dual cores do not bring world peace or cure cancer. They are, however, nice to have. If you're on the fence though, and you can run the things you want presently, I'd recommend waiting. As always, the longer you wait, the cooler stuff that comes out, and thus the more bang for your proverbial buck you'll get when you do upgrade.

thats what i figure, wait for a little bit. I have a pretty decent processor, just wanted to get some opinions about how great dual cores are

If you are in need of more processing power, dual cores are a good investment, especially if you're going into video editing on your PC, in which case you need LOTS of CPU, RAM and HDD space :P.
For me, I'd go dual core anyhow on my next upgrade. Might as well be near the edge when the edge keeps moving forward so I dont get left behind. >
want a sig like mine? :D

It really depends. If you've got software that can take advantage of multiple CPUs, as many high-end graphics ones can, then it's a good choice. If you're just a casual user, gamer, then it won't do much for you out of the box. If you're patient, then it'll pay off. But, then, it'll also pay off to wait until there are more games that can utilize the multiple cores.
