and this is the first time, the problem that triggers it is:
ati2dvag infinite loop, a problem with the ATI video driver / device driver.
Only happens with EVE, no recent changes on my part.
Advice, fix etc appreciated.

BSoD's with video drivers are usually caused by dusty fans. Heat build up is a killer.
Else, what driver version are you using? (I use ATI myself and never have any problems (in any games).

Hi BSOD each time I open EVE - sometimes before I logon but usually within 60 secs of logon. Happened this am when computer swithched on after off for 8 hours. Radeon X800 SE, Driver ver 6.14.10.0252
Only started yesterday after downtime (Iknow there is a tenency to blame eve for everything so perhaps its a coincidence but...)

Some sound cards have issues with EVE - most of the time a BSOD will be because of A) Heat, or B) Sound being enabled. -

Edited by: Elgar Lightfoot on 17/09/2006 12:57:19 The newer ATI drivers should allow you to check the vidoe cards Temperature (not sure about your card).

If he has an ATI sound card that also calls itself a Display Adapter
For temperatue monitoring you can use a program like Everest. Once installed just click on the Computer icon, then Sensor. GPU = your video card.
If you want to update the driver you can try using the Omega driver - I've had very good experience with it vs the official ATI drivers.

I had a BSOD yesterday. CPU at 61ŚC! Cleaned the inside with compressed air.

You are using 6.18 drivers? Those are pretty old you probably just need to update them, the current version of the catalyst drivers is 6.9 now, so you are like 8 revisions behind.

Thanks all
Upgraded Bios, Chipset and Drivers. Blew away the dust.
No problems.

I have just returned to Eve after, roughly, a 2 month break due to RL. The game used to play perfectly but is now unplayable.
The problem I am seeing has nothing to do with GPU temp. I am running a geforce 6200 and have random blue screens, reboots and drops-to-desktop even from the log-in screen. I have monitored GPU temp' and it never goes above 60C, well within design perameters.
If I go to task manager and then load eve and let it sit at the log-in screen I see an instant jump to 100% CPU usage, soon after this I BSOD.
I feel this is a client problem for sure. Come on devs please? Loads of players are having this problem even with ATI cards, at least lets us know your going to work on it?
Cheers

BSOD is never an application problem. It is either busted hardware, or busted drivers. To rule out heat you need to make sure your system is not overclocked, even underclock it if possible, and open the case and place a houe fan next to it blowing tons of cool air at the motherboard and video card. GO nuts with cooling and if it still doesn't help, it's probably buggy drivers. If you get different BSODs or sometimes just complete lock ups, reboots, or other random crashes, it's probably hardware. Make sure you can run memtest86 without any errors for at least a half hour.
And if you have an ATI card, use the Omega drivers, and underclock the card a bit. ATI seems to push their clock rates a little too high for stability.
