At what point does mining start to earn you more than lvl4 missions?
Now of course mining Arkonor in 0.0 with a Hulk will net you a lot of profit, what I'm looking for is the threshold ship/roid combo at which you start to earn more than missions.
I'm basically considering doing some mining for the first time in 3 years (got all the skills just never really used them ) and was looking at 0.4-0.1 systems, but I want it to be profitable  .

This is bad question, because noone know how much You make on missions.
Basically, You need covetor in 0.0 to have profits from mining.

This is only really something you can answer yourself.
Try timing a typical mission and figure out how much cash you made from it. Then go mine for the same time and compare the profits. It shouldn't take long to figure out the answer to your own question.

1) time how much m isk you make per hour missioning
2) find one of the numerous industrial sheets that list the mining yield of ores and how much they are worth per can.
3) figure out how long it would take you (and any alts) to fill said can.
4) do 60/part 3*part 2 and figure out how much m isk per hour you make mining.
5) whichever ore you need to make it worth it, then there you go.

Mining in low sec and earning more than doing lvl4 missions is next to impossible.
Reason is simple, the roids are crap! Either they got already mined or they are not worth it.
Best ore in low sec is Hedbergite and with a covetor you could do 600k isk per cycle (3 min) plus the time you need for hauling, refining and selling the mins.
Remember mining is not instant cash you got to spend some time making the mining worth it.
Finding Hedbergite aint a problem -> Ore Map but getting some decent amounts out of the roids is.
So in the end you will have to mine roids that are worth far less.
Dont know what you earn with lvl4 missions but it should be way more and less bothering.
