Hello all, hows everyone doing? As i just started playing ive been watching the channels and looking at the forum. I had heard that eve was harder on new players so wanted to be prepared. After reading some posts i almost peed myself.
WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT AVOIDING GANKING
1 Read the forum guides theyre in english and everything
2 Stay at the keyboard ( i use a chair to sit at mine).
3 Use scan, its one button.
4 sometimes it will just happen anyway (2 days old and i got done lol). Ah well stuf happens.
5 fit at least a little tank
Or instead plant face on keyboard and roll left to right 3 times before posting on forums.
All the whine posters are gettin in the way of the good posts, not fair. |

@ OP: You cannot create this kind of chaos. Either you're a n00b and post here about how hard, unfair etc EVE is or you learn and wipe the floor with all those guys in silence.

API Key Setup - it's an id and verification code combination that you can give people so they can see all of the non-personal information about your account without giving them your username and password (which should never be done by anyone ever).

Oh no, Ive said many of those things a brazillion gorillion times, and I was nodding riiight up until that last sentence, otherwise I would totally agree with you..
But alas, what you are outlining is just not doable in the eyes of highsec ganking victims because it all boils down to ::effort:: on their behalf, and we all know that when it comes to highsec, they cant be arsed to do anything for themselves, hence the "hurf blurf nerf nerf" threads.

Undoubtedly if you join a corp you'll need to provide an API to help prove you're not an alt anyway. The only people needing to worry about API keys are players who have things to hide, like market trading, names of NPC alts, etc.
It's very hard to believe that a brand new player who doesn't even know what an API key is has had enough experience to make any call on ganking. If you're a brand new player, you won't even have flown anything worth ganking yet The fact is, you appear to be a code alt, of which we have seen many. If on the very remote chance you aren't a code alt, you'll pretty much be assumed to be one from now on anyway. If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Yeah OP, believe it or not, newbies have a hard time focusing on the screen if there is nothing going on, I mean, you either get used to stare at a screensaver for hours or you have something else to entertain you.

On another note, If you are a new player just starting in this game and looking for a more friendly discussion, I would suggest posting in the New Players Questions & Answers section of the forum. General Discussion tends to be a tad more rough on the edges posting wise. Also, there are additional (stricter) rules enforced there.

really, how many times in general forums on ganking threads or crime and punishment threads does anyone mention api? Never heard of it before now, and also the fact I can read and find out what I need to know makes me an alt how? If I put in eve mining or eve algos fit why would api come up? Because I knew what I was training? Ive played mmos before as I have said, the terminology isn't a lot different really its not, nor is the attitude. The mass paranoia on the other hand is monumental. I say im going to read up on code and james 315 because ive heard a lot about them on the forums and all of a sudden im some alt of theres?? get real.
Is it so funny that if a want to start playing a game I make an effort to find out a bit about how it works?? Also why cant I like what the algos looks like? That's the only reason I went gallente, that and drones. Not roleplaying luv.
So far met loads of nice folks in game and a couple on this page but it seems most folks here are very bitter and resentfull about something. A well hope you all have a good eavening |

There are a lot more nice folks in this game. More than it looks from the forums.
Nothing funny about reading forums and blogs. I did so, when i began. I had the help chat channels open all the time. the were answers for questions i did not have that time. I got my orca fit from a link from there.
I was well tanked and fitted before i even heard of codies. (in the help channel the pros where laughing about them)
As i said you sound like code propaganda.

Here is my lazy way. Create an overview that only has moons and towers on it. On camera controls select centred on selected object. Click a moon in your overview - do a 5 degree scan. Rinse and repeat. My personal best is 25 moons in a system with a radius under 14.5au in a minute. |

Not to take away from your post but I thought I might add that I always read the forums of a game before deciding to play (Which most likely means pay for it these days). It helps me judge how active the community is, general attitude of the community and skimming through some guides and reading the GD/new player help sections gives me some starting info on what's going on and how to do things etc.
I know I'm not the usual and most people will play a game without even knowing a forum exist but just pointing out that there are people like me out there who will read a forum and at least attempt to go into a game with a rough general knowledge. |
