I remember my first, it was quite a rush. Was a Covetor in lowsec, I only asked for 5 mil and got it. The guy was actually pretty nice; I *almost* felt bad for doing it, hehe.
Just be careful, once you start doing it it's really, REALLY hard to stop I now leave you to your... MOOSEY FATE!! |

I remember mine. It was a coveter in low sec asked for 10mil he said 8. I was so shaking so bad I could barely type out the answer of okay. I really should of asked for 15mil or so but meh.
Been doing missions recently I really need to get back to piracy. |

I cannot understand why people pay ransoms. Pirates are terrorists. Paying a ransom is negotiating with terrorists. This only emboldens them.

Pirates aren't terrorists.
Terrorists: we want to kill you and destroy your society.
Pirates: we want your money.
Therefore, when you give a terrorist money, they will use it to buy weapons to kill you with. Whereas when you give a pirate money, they will happily leave you alone.
(Then use it to buy better weapons and come back and take your money again, but that's beside the point)

Eh, maybe so. But the real question is, does it encourage them more than your ship getting blown up, your loot and modules ransacked, your pod and implants popped, and your killmail permanently framed and displayed?
So if you like thinking in terms of the big picture, the real question is...
...which kind of piracy do you want to encourage?
My advice: pay your ransom, and then add a 15-20% tip if the pirate has provided courteous and exceptional service. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

No way. I'd sooner have to go to a Duran Duran concert and drink Zima than to pay someone not to kill me. Pirates are terrorists. I dont negotiate with terrorists.

You'll think differently when you find every cent you have in your cargo and the ransom is considerably smaller than your cargo's value...
P.S. Maybe in your made-up languages, pirates classify as terrorists, but in English, we have "definitions" that imply that words have "meanings."

You obviously have no clue what a terrorist is. I think you need to research what terrorism truly is before making silly comments.
And as said before. ransom = less than loss if you die then paying ransom makes sense.

Eve needs a ship self-destruct skill that can be trained up in vicinity damage.
It's an entirely plausible defense tactic that will help induce pirates to get a real job.

Well-played pirates are basically capitalistic...they want to get a lot of ISK, but they don't want to damage their economic base(their prey). Ransoming is a much better way to preserve that economic base than podding.
on another note, I've been pirated 4 times. 3 of those times I ransomed, and the cost of those payments still does not exceed the value of implants I had installed. I have successfully defended against pirates 2 times, and both were as exciting to me as being a pirate is to the pirate!
To the OP, enjoy your pirating, and I'll look forward to our first corporate 'meeting'!!

I'd pay ransom tbh.
TBH, my whole pirate corp dosen't pirate to make ISK. We do it because we like flying around in gangs pvping. Even if there were no drops from players, and nobody ransomed anything, we'd still fly around and PVP because it's fun.
Not paying ransom when offered... basically means nothing. We're still going to blow you up. Hell, if it cost money to aggress someone in low-sec, we'd probably still do it.

Exactly. The terrorist side is much more gratifying (sp ?), although most of the time less lucrative. The glue sniffing makes it all worthwhile tho. ;O

Never pay a ransom, just turn off the explosion effects (i forget the key combination but there is a way to easily and quickly do it) so that you do not lag when getting blown up because the pirate is probably far enough away not to get lagged anyway.
Just keep trying to warp while your almoast blown up and you'll end up warping away in your pod LONG before the pirate can even hope to lock and scrambler your pod.
Oh and if you do pay the ransom they will just come after you the very next time they see you in a system becuase they know you will pay.
