I have MO 4, Torps, 5, Large Energy Weapons 2 (and training) but I also have most EW skills at 4. I want a decent PvP Battleship but can't decide between Scorpion or Raven. What would you guys out there suggest?

Edited by: Harpoon on 22/10/2003 07:58:16 If you want to deal huge amounts of damage, go for the Raven.
If you want versatility, there is no other choice than the Scorpion. You may not be the "hardest hitter", but you can equip for many different roles.

I know that you can't beat a Scorpion on EW but just how good is the Raven at it?

A raven with 5-6 launchers (FoF cruise) could probably beat a scorpion even when target jammed. You can't warp scramble him, though... Scaring him away shouldn't be much of a problem

I agree, Ravens are devestating.
Recently made the mistake of going for the 2 Scorpions in the fleet while ignoring the Raven.
We killed the two Scorpions pretty quickly but the Raven took me down to 29% armour and 40% hull.
Tried warping away but those cruiser missiles just kept coming and coming, my warp drive couldn't align to the moon I was aiming for, and I thought I was dead.
Luckily, we destroyed him soon enough for me to wriggle free and get to someplace safe.

Edited by: TheOnyx on 22/10/2003 08:30:53 Scorpion all the way. Equip it right and no one can beat you. With the right skills at the right level you do lots of damage even with only 6 hi slots. 3 launchers and 3 Neutron blasters for close range, a few hardeners and the right EW modules and you'll be an unbeatable tank. It's even cheaper than the Raven. Don't get me wrong, the Raven is a very good 2nd choice....

hmm Certainly sounds like interesting and I'm starting to lean towards a Raven. So, with Engineering 5 and Electronics 5 how many seige launchers can be fitted on one?

6 may be possible when the patch is out, make sure to get weapon upgrades 4 first.

Remember.
The scorp is an ecm ship, but fitted with the right hardeners, u can make it take some damage.
Its not as soft as ppl think, i mean, look at the stats for the shields/armour/hull.
Its no wet paper bag, im sure u will agree.

Weapon upgrades doesnt work for launchers. I myself have a Megathron and a scorp. The scorpian is a great ship but when it comes down to it, its just expensive insurance for me. The damage just can't compare to the damage I do with my Megathron. Granted, the scorp's 8 med. slots kicks ass for pvp and the scorp had great shields, but like I said, I dont think im going to be taking my scorp out unless I really feel like it.

Well I also have a Megathron but thi sis going to be relegated to Mining op's and NPC farming because I just would not be confiedent in a PvP battle with it. It seems far too weak for my liking (especially since I don't have great drone skills). One question though, exactly what is the benefit of Cruise missiles? As far as I'm aware they don't have as high a damage as a Torp and cost more than a Heavy Missiles.

Cruise missiles come in FoF flavour which menas you can fire even if your target has locked you down.
E.g Scorp EW means you cannot target scorp - FoF missiles can still be fired aas they do not require you to have a target lock.
Only prob with FoF missiles is they generally do less dam than non-fof missiles

Raven have much more potential then a Scorpion i think. With 6 Launchers and 2 Turrets it¦s the best PvP BS at the moment. If it¦s jammed, all 6 Launchers will be loaded with FoF Cruise Missles and drop down the enemy to hell. With the ROF Bonus on Missle Launcher, the Raven Rulz. Best PvP ship in 1on1 and Team Fight, so it¦s the best PvP ship in all cases.

Well a few weeks ago I would have said Scorpion all the way. But now I have been experimenting with Raven and I love it. Sheer power is awesome. I would like to see the Raven with larger cargo, as you'll need a lot of torps (if you are using them) in larger battles and atm you can only put about 270 of them in the cargo.

Lol 270 is not enough
lets just say you for the mo mounted 6 siege launchers on that thing, yuo can fire for more than 6 minutes with all launchers going before you would need to restock..
6 mins of continuous missle fire....
Ravens are uber, but don't discount the scorp either. I've seen both be used to great effect
Damage wise a raven will output more damage than a scorp.. but a scorp can be converted into many different roles, while when you see a raven you think "Missle BS".

They both are great combat ships. The Scorp has an edge on CPU, EW and Shields(assuming you have your battleship skills trained up) while the Raven has better Powercore, rmor, structure, another low slot and can pumps out about twice the volume of missiles(again, assuming you trained battleship up)
They can both fill eachother's roles pretty well, though I wouldn't load up a raven with ECMs or expect an quick fight with an Apoc tank in a Scorp. Its all a matter of taste.

I know that 270 torpedos are alot, but when you are in deep space, far away from stations its not enough. With those torps, you can only destroy 3-4 decently equiped Battleships.

You make it sound like kiling 3-4 BSs in a row is such a common thing . If you kill one BS you have already done your job, let alone 3-4.

How many slots did you waste to get that unnecessary (1on1) range?

Knowing Homo he probably uses that range to annoy pirates by using handy bookmarks around jump-in points and jumpgates.
It's what I'd do.
