As this toon is nearing the end of its training (still millions of SP to go, but whatever), I find SP gets less interesting. Anything I am training now maybe adds a few percent to the overall stats, but doesn't add experience in a meaningful way; not with my current, casual gameplay.
In other games, I have a tendency start over again, again and again, just because the character or gameplay didn't work out, or because I just feel like it.
I will keep this toon, ofcourse, but I am contemplating rolling a new one and start from scratch, just to see how things work out.

I can remember my first Frigate/Cruiser/Battlecruiser etc usw. But when you reached a certain level of SP everything is just "ah look another skill done" . |

I was playing Skillqueue Online in last 2 years, passed the 150 million Sp mark 2 weeks ago and I have 3 main goals:
Fly all ships: only 3 ships missing due to lack of ISK: - Erebus, Ragnarok, Avatar Titans
Know all available skills at least lvl 1: not known 17 skills (mostly trade, fleet and corp skills)
Be able to use all available modules: cant use 72 modules (mostly warfare links and drones):
Bonus: get Mastery lvl5 on my favourite ships.
My RL stuff doesnt let me to play EVE nowadays, and my friends left EVE years ago. Keeping my sub and waiting for better days, when I'll have more time and friends to play. Then I wont regret lost skilltime.
As skill training goes in real time, if you lost skill training, you cant get it back ever. That's the biggest catch for me to keep subbed even when I dont log in for months. |

I like to visit this thread on occasion, since I too am addicted to skill points. More accurately, skill categories. This pilot is at 189 million SP, 343 skills, 229 at level 5. I currently have maxed out the following categories:
- Drones
- Engineering
- Production
- Resource Processing
- Rigging
- Shields
- Social
- Subsystems
- Targeting
- Trade
I'll have Jump Portal Generation 5 in 54d, which will complete Navigation. After that, I may tackle finishing Neural Enhancement, then maybe move on to Scanning. That will be another 190 d, after which I will likely re-spec out of INT/MEM and into PER/WIL so I can start putting some decent SP into the weapons skills. I'll probably be parked in PER/WIL for another couple years, BOB willing and the servers don't die.

Yeah, some V's, close to 50 on my other char. All subcap, mostly combat pilot skills. No real perfection philosophy here, just an awareness that with some skills, even a 2% increase can equate to a 100% difference on the final outcome.
Sometimes too, it's just more logical to push in a few extra V's before a neural remap and the long wait to the next one, especially if you are not bogging your skill plans down with extra needless skills (e.g. PI, mining, caps etc).

Only thing on that list I don't have but want is target painting V. It is in my next skill plan though, along with marauder training for obvious reasons. Yes, having probe skills up high is very useful, especially in high traffic areas. I use to be so into h4cking, well up until it went from all combat to mini-games. But I still use it for combat sites. Looks like a good list there.

Thanks. I have another Rain with perfect probing, and other Rains still with better Ewar. They specialized separately, and it's reaching the inevitable point where their specializations converge after having the time to train them.

The only downside & complaint i have is that in the beginning I plugged in some skills that I wished I had not. But CCP forces you to plug a skill in to be able to try something out. I would love to be able to unplug skills that I will never use again.
I am all for Removal of Unwanted Skills for Plex
You do not get skill points back or reimbursed for skill books purchased. I believe that if you have the right to plug in the skill you should be able to unplug it. There is a cost for this & that is one Plex & no reimbursement for skill points. CCP should give us a choice. I guarantee that CCP would get many plexes from the community for this option. Many of us want clean skill sheets.
So those skills that are at level 3 on my sheet will never be trained any higher, what a waste.

I am not addicted to SP, I rather take them as a bitter medicine. For that reason I decided that it may be worth it to stay subbed regardless of whether I play the game - it's less bitter when you don't notice what you swallow it |

Nearing the 260 million mark and I think I have 217 skills to lvl 5, but I did the most painful and longest ones first, so there's practically nothing left in ship command to train, as all carriers, dreads and titans are maxed out, same goes for gunnery and only being a few weeks away from all of them being gold on eve boards.
Still, there's another 15 months on the skill queue, or roughly 30 million sp left so I don't know what to do after the 300 million mark......Still hard to believe i'll be there by next year...LOL. |

Because there isn't really anything I want to do in high-sec and my sp is too low for null. I spend most of my game time either on the forums or in-game sat in a station either looking at items on the market or reading stuff, including rookie chat as well as others.
Biggest concern is when I finally decide to leave the station the docking clamps will be seized on. |

What skill management program is that? I don't recognize it.
I just had a character finish every combat-related Intel/Mem skill to V with cloning facility operation V. Remapped out of Intel/Mem for the last time, I'm pretty sure.

I did a year of Int/Mem on this character not too long ago, I'll need to go back when I run out of skills and end up doing capital stuff though.
I do however have a 847 day plan of Int/Mem on another character, which I'll be starting after 392 days of Per/Will.

I just found this thread and I had to toss something out there.
I've got a very good friend for the past 20+ years, who's a heavy-duty gamer and very thoughtful. We noticed that we both had this tendency you describe, but not just in Eve, but with a lot of other games out there. Specifically open-ended RPGs and games with fixed endings, but which require a massive number of milestones to be reached.
My friend then coined (about 12+years ago) one of the best terms I've ever heard in my gaming career - the 'Completionist syndrome."
I think that's what's happening here. I have it. You have it. Tons of us have it. Let me give you an example.
When I played Morrowind, I was the type of player who was figuring out how to level every skill up to 100%. When Skyrim came out, I wasn't interested. Because I heard it was impossible to train all skills to 100. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's just the way my brain is wired. I don't want to play Zelda through to just win - I want to find _every_ secret and item.
I see a gap, and I absolutely have to fill it. I like to joke that Level V skills are what keep CCP in business. :)
I'd be curious if you folks out there notice that you have this tendency in other games outside of Eve - your brain is addicted to 'completing' things, if that makes sense. Not winning a game, but completing everything, including winning.

It wasn't impossible to train all skills to 100. All skills at 100 would give you a level of 81.
The problem was there were 251 specialisation points, which meant to get them all you would need to be level 252. However in the early days you could only reach level 81 so you would have a total of 80 specialisation points to use.

Not as much as I used to be, given that after 12+ years of playing, I've had the basics covered for a long time now and the big 300 million SP mark isn't that far away anymore ( early 2017 and it's done ) and skills that I actually want to take to lvl 5, are dwindling fast too.
I'll max out skills that have an impact of the performance of ships in some manner, so corporation skills, production skills, research skills, marketing skills, mining skills, will stay at lvl 4 and that's more than good enough.....

25 to Level V here!
Will be 32 after I've grunted through a bunch more before *finally* remapping in December after ~14 months of an Int/Mem map. Assuming I don't add any more to the queue that is.....

My methodology was the opposite of the op's at first. I couldn't stand long train times. I trained T1 ship skills to 4 to unlock the next class up, then at BS IV switched races. I never trained any T2 guns on my first character till after I'd trained all the subcap T1 guns. But over time I ran out of places to spread SP to avoid long trains.
Now I've given up and decided to complete any performance enhancing skill I can justify for the ships each character flies, and as the list dwindles that justification becomes easier for the remaining skills. |

Not 100% sure I have this addiction in the OP's sense, but I do have a certain extent I think. I like to inject every skill that has a green check-mark next to it - so if I have the requirements, I must get the book or my OCD ticks in ....
My primary indy skills have priority in the queue, but yea ... I guess it's more I have a skill-book addiction? x.x
Does that count? ;x
