What's the message we're being given here? Only use macro's that don't have key loggers?
Surely hijacking people who shouldn't be on Eve is the best form of anti-macro out there? Is CCP unhappy because somebody out there might be doing there job for them? Are they unhappy because they didn't think of it first?
Or maybe, they are just unhappy they won't be taking money off several thousand multi-account macro farmers if they all go off to macro some other mmo instead.
I think I'd quite like to see what somebody does with a few thousand hijacked accounts. I doubt they have enough human workforce to do anything as destructive as the macro miners.
Until the macro farmers are gone, few can compete in the mining industry. And when they are gone. I'll mine instead of can-flipping macros.
Somebody please enlighten me, because to me this warning seems to be counter-productive.
( and I hope nobody says "It's because my TOP CORP that has been playing Eve for 3 years uses Alts for macro mining, and the account hijack would expose most of "teh el33t" as total frauds" )

You either didn't read the news post, or just plain don't understand MMO rules.
At no point are you allowed to use ANY sort of macro in EVE, PERIOD. Some people are advertising the use of them in local, ie "USE MY MACRO FOR SPEED K", which is an attempt to grab account information, so that that person gets a free account.
If this doesn't awnser your question, then I have no idea what the hell you where going on about. -

There are two things in that warning.
1. CCP doesn't want ANYBODY using macros. And just because you don't see them actively doing anything about it doesn't mean that they aren't. Just think about all the 'why was I banned?' posts the past few weeks. Not all macros are for mining, just the most common ones. So if it does scare off some folks that are macro-mining, then that is a GOOD thing.
2.They are also warning that some macros that are being given around have the ability to run a keylogger. This means that it is sending the writer of the macro information about you. It's most likely your account password, but it could also be a self-installing TSR that is also happily sending the writer things such as your credit card info, paypal log-in, bank account password and who knows what else. So they are warning players about this possible security breach that people are installing on their own, to avoid all sorts of problems for both the players AND ccp who will get stuck trying to sort out the mess.
And who's to say that the big macro-miners aren't using hacked passwords? And how do they get these passwords? Keyloggers in macro software.

Do you really want to use a macro that someone else wrote that isn't in plain text so you can see what it does? To give you an example...
One game I used to play, someone handed out a "hauling" macro so people could make money fast while AFK. They also put in a hidden command that if they sent it in a private message to someone using their macro, it would make the person suicide twice. The commands were sent to the server before you could disconnect, so it didn't matter what you did. End result, person had to start over from the beginning as a new character - they lost everything they built up.
So, is it really worth using someone else's macro? I don't think so...

Here is an example of an idiot (me).
I saw the link and was curious. I went to the site and downloaded the 'program'. Note I was not in Eve at the time so technically I was not breaching EULA. I ran the program as it said it had certain configurable features. I wanted to see what these macro programs looked like. It tried to load Eve and I stopped it. I tried to find where it had installed and couldn't find it anywhere and (wrongly) concluded that, as I had stopped eve unexpectedly, it had failed to install.
A couple of hours ago my computer started Eve up on it's own. Logged in and ecrowed stuff out of my account. Somewhere along the way the Eve-server detected the macro and banned my account. Meanwhile the macro tried to uninstall Eve and I had to shut my machine down to stop it.
I don't know what I lost, my account is locked (though I have now changed my password on the website so at least I still have my account) and I have learnt my lesson.
NEVER NEVER NEVER run anything from someone you do not know.
Mik, the idiot.

So you know. I lost all my ISK, all my corp's ISK, all my hangar and all my corp's hangar. Luckily only in the local station I was in.
Total loss. 1.5 billion.

Nope any macro use is prohibited as per the EULA and anyone caught using a macro risk's having his/her account banned, i think the post was more of a "We have discovered certain macro's have keyloggers in" type post because i am fairly sure CCP probably try out all these macro's in order to find way's to track them and to stop them working etc.
But i'll say it again just to be clear, CCP does not permit the use of any macro program's, the one exception to this rule is the G15 keyboard which as far as i know doesn't allow you macro entire actions its mainly just used to press F1-F8 at the same time or to only activate certain modules at any given time. ---

Jeez doesnt anyone actually read posts before they reply saying about you are not allowed macros?
Quote: Surely hijacking people who shouldn't be on Eve is the best form of anti-macro out there?
This is the OP suggesting that maybe if the macro steals stuff/passwords from anyone stupid enough to use them they get what they deserve. So the op is not condoning or suggesting the use of macros, simply that why should ccp try to help people that are using macro programs? They get what they deserve if they get hacked IMHO, as I beleieve the OP also believes. -------------------------------- CEO of Cosmos Operations
