Edited by: Draig Coch on 22/10/2003 11:54:05 Just wanted to say hi to you all, I just got the game loaded and patched and...well, servers are down for an hour!
Did manage to have a quick fly about before they went down though!
Really looking forward to this now, maybe when I get half a clue about what I'm doing I'll see some of you out there, it seems very confusing to me at the moment, guess I'm a bit dense, but at least I managed to mine my first asteroid before servers went down. Quite cool!!

Yes, welcome, hope you have as much fun in the game as I have so far

welcome! people complain a lot on these forums, but i've been playing since release and still love it. There is a very steep learning curve to eve, and things have evolved quite a bit so just about any documentation on the game is out of date. chat with folks ingame to learn how to play, and what to watch out for. i'm sure u can contact any of us here directly to get advice or help (ingame eve-mail).
my first tip that probably isn't in the current tutorial- #1: is learn how to use the starmap! it is probably the most important interface in the game, and not only tells you where u are, where u are going, but where the dangerous areas to avoid are that day. #2: my second tip is if you aquire a ship that you are particularly fond of, make sure you get at least basic insurance on it (lasts 3 weeks) since many new players lose everything they have in an instant (the first time they accidentally bump into a pirate, or crash in the middle of battle) and get so shocked and upset by it that they quit playing. insurance always softens the blow and lets you recover quickly if you are new.
eve is a beautiful game, with many things to explore and many things left yet to be implemented.
enjoy! svet

Edited by: Draig Coch on 22/10/2003 13:42:52 Edited by: Draig Coch on 22/10/2003 13:39:31 Hi all! Many thanks for your welcome. Just thought I would let you know how I am getting on..or not :)
I have just about finihsed the training missions I think - Just finihsed the one where you pickup garbage and get a bonus for doing it in less than an hour.
I must admit to already be struggling though, the steep learning curve is definitly there for us newbs. I am struggling mostly with the navigation maps the documentation on how to use them is sparse, but I guess I'm getting through it.
I just broke the 30k ISK and I'm feeling a bit pleased with myself at the progress, feeling a good sense of achievment, no rush, I'm here for the long run, and so far enjoying.
Bit concerned with a few points, hopefully some of you nice people can help me? I understand the 1 hour downtime earlier, it was scheduled, but I have just been kicked out and now see that the server is down - is this a regular occurance?
Also I have been to a few places now following the tutorial and I'm mining stuff in between, and would really like a cargo expansion, but when I click into that area on the market there never seems to be any available? I bet I'm doing something really stupidly wrong but how to get one would be a help.
Thanks in advance..must say it really is a great looking game I have high hopes of staying long term, just wish it was a little more newb friendly in the docs but I guess that is what the forum is for!!
Thanks in advance for any help you can give :)
One other thing...I'm making quite a few bookmarks but am at a loss how to display them?

Hi, and welcome!
As almost all said before, EVE is not easy to get going. Reading a lot will help you getting it faster.
The forums are a good place to start. www.eve-i.com too. I recommend that you read some articles about basic gameplay before joining a corp, so you have your chances of being scammed lowered. But in fact, joining a good corp will speed up things too, and is directly related to how much you will enjoy the game in a month and beyond.
If you have played any MMORPGs before, then you already know that you can trust no one. If you don't, well, then take that as your rule #1. EVE is full of griefers (people who make their days by destroying your enjoyment of the game) and scammers. Actually, avoiding that is part of the fun imho, but you must be careful

Hi - my problem is when I start EVE it says the server is down, this has been the case since a crash at 2:30pm today.
Looking at abother link that shows over 3500 people online playing right now however.
I have reinstalled the game, and the patch, same result saying server is down. It was working fine from whatevr time my first post was until the crash at 2:30 or so.
I have restarted it many times, always says server is down.
I have a P4 2.4mhx, 1024Mb Ram, GeforceFX 5600 256Mb card and all drivers are current and I'm running DirectX 9.0.
Why doesn't someone from the company contact me about this or at least put some sort of notice up if there is a problem in my area?? I am living near Cardiff, Wales in the UK.
This is my first day of playing the game and it is definitly not the best of starts. I installed at about 11am and so far have had 2 hours of play. I was hoping to recommend it to my guild in DAoC of 109 members and when we get going start a Corp here, but it seems a stupid thing to do if I can't even connect!
I am very very annoyed now, very frustrated at the lack of feedback to my emails, generally ****** off tbh.
Thanks for any help anyone can give seems players have to try and help instead of the company that makes the game! VERY BAD SERVICE.

Nip over to www.eve-i.com and get a program called "evedude" - you will no doubt end up using it a lot.. its handy for all sorts of things but especially clearing out all cache information that often leads to various errors.
I was unable to log onto my account for a goo dportion today until i remembered to totally clear all the cache contents -bingo worked again immeiately.
Easiest way to do that is to use evedude.

G'day Cpt. Draig Coch,
Welcome aboard. Your new mistress EVE can be very demanding. Caress here the right way though and she will reward you.
If you still have not managed to get back in, you can try this: open your command prompt window and type "ipconfig/flushdns"
Might help, has worked for me in the past.
Cheers! ____________________ Keep your hands on your isk and your eyes on your six
