Let my start by saying this. Ever since I read my first story about someone getting ransomed by a pirate I have been dying to be one too. I will however admit that my other side was still too scared to go out and try it, and even more I was worried about having low sec status. So I just sat there dreaming and living off of other peoples tales.
Fast forward till a few days ago. I decided to make a trial account and see how I like it on there. Now you have to know this about me. I hate doing things on alternate characters, especially in eve.
Three days... I'm flying my main and decide screw this. I get in a station. Buy a Vexor, load up on drones, light guns, nos, web, mwd, and of course, the warp distruptor. This was it. I was going out to steal money from people
I jump to a nearby 0.4 system. People probobly thought since it is so close to their 0.7 zones they would still be safe there. Think again I started jumping from asteroid belt to belt. I was to excited to use my scanner and try to find people that way. On my first jump I see a destroyer. Not worth my time, I'll move on.
4th belt I land 30km from someone but they are too far to see what ship they are flying. I hit my mwd and fly straight at them anyways only to see it is a stabber, a cruiser is good. My drone skills are high and if I am prepared and they are not, I can do this easy. I have to say I was shaking by this point. My eyes were wide open. As accepted the security message felt like I was accepting my future as a pirate, emotion moment here fellows
I lock at 22km, jamed his warp drive, got within 10km, hit him with nos and a web. Right from the start my hammerheads were hammering away at his hull (well closer to the end they were ) I got him down very quickly and by the time I told my drones to return and shut off my guns his hull only had half its original intergrity.
Now, I was so jittery I just sorta sat there for a few seconds doing nothing. Then I thought, oh yeah I have to message him with a ransom Not knowing what a normal price for a stabber would be I said "1 mill and you go free". That seems to be the line all the pros use. Or at least the guy that got me a few days ago did.
This guy was super quick about the payment. He knew he was beat but he wasnt dumb (like someone else you will see later) and didnt let it get worse. It is like poker, you just have to fold sometimes even if you already have a lot of money in the pot.
I thought the first time was supposed to hurt
As you can see from my typing skills, my hands werent working properly at this point. I thank him and warp off.
So, my initiation is over. I have 1 million more isk than I did a few seconds ago. It felt good, but I did feel a little bad for him. But, next time maybe he will fit warp stabs, or even surprise me and destroy my ship who knows. It is always good to be careful. I am gonna get a ton of flack for this... but, I use 2 warp stabs on my pirating vessle. I dont pirate for glory (well, maybe a little bit) but the number one goal is to have more money in my pocket

PART 2. This one did not go as well as the last.
My friend called my off to another system two jumps away to help out with killing npc battle cruisers. So we were flying around and I jump in on a minmitar cruiser, dont remember the name of the ship but it has the shape of an upside down triangle I think. I do the same routine, mwd, warp jam, take him down to half hull and I start a convo.
I tell him to pay up with 1 mill and I wont destroy his ship. "And be quick about it" I also added. He starts complaining about "wtf, why are you doing this?" I let him know with a simple three worded response "I want money". -Insert more complaining and cussing here-. I assumed maybe he was whining like a little girl cause he was a new player, and I didn't whant any more whining and wanted to help my friend so I just say "500k, I'm being nice, you have exactly one minute and your ship is toast"..... more whining...
Well the funny thing is, my friend warps in next to me at exactly one minute and finishes the job for me. I did a little yelling at him that I was gonna get paid but this guy learned his lesson. Maybe next time they meet him in space he will pay a little quicker.
Anyways, I didn't get my money but I tought someone a lesson. Don't mess with pirates. I am a pirate now. And it is great I just shouldn't have waited so long. See ya out in space, but hope you dont See me.
YARRRRR (can I do this now ) ?

I enjoyed the read. In regards to the stabs. It is more important to stay alive at the beginning than to build a reputation. Work on a reputation when you can afford to lose everything and start again.
Since he's not typing like a teleprompter on speed, Im sure we can surmise he knows the impacts of fitting stabs over other modules.
Have fun.

Mirrel he can wear stabs if he wants lol
Though to the Op, Wearing stabs will get you flamed... a LOT.
A better way of working is to get to understand lowsec game mechanics a little better. Then get to know "what to engage" and what to run the hell away from lol. And you will no longer need the stabs And can concentrate on a better ship fitting.
But congratz on your first kills, Welcome to the ebil side

Edited by: Tarnish Katharr on 19/09/2006 09:11:40 Create a new chat channel and set the MOTD to something intimidating, like what you will do if they don't cease fire and bring their ship to a stop. Include that they are about to be ransomed. Invite them to the channel rather than convo'ing them.
Saves you a bunch of typing while under fire.

Or just kill/pod every rat b@stard you come across, and you won't have to worry about convoing anyone at all =]

Noooooo drop the stabs fella. Its an unwritten rule that pirates never stab we frown upon them and curse ccp for ever putting them ingame. Other than that well done & keep up the good work.

To honest I actually lost 3 ships flying around low sec space trying to get a feel for it. I don't really know much about pvping. I NEVER fought a real player before this. Once I get the basics down they are leaving.

Yarr i was going to respond with complements, but then i saw the stabs which made me sad, everytime you fit a stab God kills a hawt supermodel :( Set your overview to display ship type in the ticker Dont fit stabs, if you dont think you can win, dont engage replace those stabs with something thats going to keep your ship alive longer in combat, ie hardeners... If a couple of intys are hunting you, stabs are only going to gimp your ship, whereas if you had strengthened your tank instead you stand a good chance of winning :)
anyway, keep up the good work

Nothing wrong with stabs. I use them when I need them. Kept me off peoples killmails in a lot of situations where I was vastly outnumbered and overpowered.
They're about as lame as ganking and just as effective.

No, we here at Veto pride ourselves on not using stabs, but using our brain, and co-operation. But that isnt the point of the topic.

To the OP - Nice work mate but drop the stabs, seriously, the Vexor is a great ship, you'll do well to fit it properly. Welcome to the world of Piracy.

You lose. There should be some MMORPG corallary to Godwin's Law that states the first person in a thread to bring up 'It's just a game, therefore your opinion is wrong' loses whatever argument was taking place.
Is it wrong to take pride in being skilled enough at, say, golf, to be good even without super graphite titanium laser clubs? They're taking pride at being good at teamwork and what they do to not have to resort to arguably overpowered tools.
Stabs have their place, but in general, it's not on a combat ship. |

The problem with stabs on a pvp cruiser is that, by the time you know you need them, it's probably too late to warp out, anyways. Cruisers, in general, aren't that strong. Vexors doubly so. By fitting stabs on the thing, you're pretty much guaranteeing that you'll have no tank to speak of. So you warp in on someone, MWD up to them, and open up with your weapons. They shoot back, you go "oops! gotta run!", and warp away. Your ship then has to slow from MWD speed, and align, and by the time it's done this, you're in your pod.
On the other hand, if you fit a nice tank (or lots of damage mods, or whatever you want to fit to increase your combat efficiency), you'll survive (and win) far more fights. In any case, just insure the thing and you'll not suffer too much when you lose your ship.
And welcome to pvp. It's fun.

Hi Tarrin, good story.
Not sure if you realise this, but you can set up the overview so it tells you what ship the person is flying. I am not in-game at the moment to tell you how to do it, but one of the options you can set when you hover your mouse over a ship (or select it in the overview) is so that it names the class of ship for you.

Take a look at our killboards on Veto and then you'll see why we're actually proud. Not one setup is gimped, we fly to our full potential with great teamwork, with one of the best CEO's, and amongst some of the friendliest guys I've ever met. I dont care how that sounds, because I know thats what we are.
Its not about a WCS, but not using a WCS is one of the first simple steps to becoming, or getting into, a place like Veto. And frankly, I'm proud of what I've achieved in EVE. I'm an 11.1mil SP character in 9 months work, and I'm in one of the most well known Piracy corps out there. Izo's turning out to be a fantastic character.
Anyway, its kind of a childish arguement we're having, isnt it? I disagree with stabs, you dont, thats all there is too it.
Cheers,
Izo Azlion.
