As you know, the Proteus release is just around the corner.
Most of the changes are for the better, but some are still controversial. I don't think anyone is going to be upset about bug fixes, or reintroducing some of the old flavor back into the names of various modules... and since the new environmental effects in the asteroid belts don't appear to be causing any frame rate loss I'd rate that one firmly on the plus side. Likewise the new Exequror hull and accompanying warp animation are all to the good (symmetry vs. asymmetry arguments notwithstanding).
However, Proteus will see the introduction of a previously unheard of capability for ships to have... that being the new bonus that combat recons have to simply be undetectable on directional scan.
This has caused a great deal of debate both pro and con, as it is very nearly as powerful as the cloaking ability of it's force recon brethren while retaining a higher degree of combat capability. The very fact that this capability is possible has people worried that it might eventually find its way into the special abilities of other types of vessels. Wormhole residents in particular are worried that this will have a drastic effect on their operations.
Another minor point of concern is that the new mining anomalies that will start spawning in starter systems will either make things a bit too easy for new players, or that a way will be found to exploit them.
I have my own opinion on these subjects, and if you are interesting in learning what they are I've gone over the high points of the Proteus release in a high def. video you can find here: PROTEUS, CHANGES INBOUND
However, I want to know what the EVE community thinks.
Will directional scan immunity unravel the fabric of the PVE lifestyle in EVE, or will wormholes residents be forced to relocate? Just how exploitable do you think this new capability is?
Does the Exequror redesign still retain that necessary organic Gallante style? Did you notice it is still asymmetrical?
If (or perhaps when) tessellation is incorporated into EVE, do you think all the asteroid fragments soon to be filling our belts will be even more fantastic, or simply a hazard to navigation.
Will having mining anomalies spawn in starter systems bend your soul, break your spine, and keep the allies from winning the war?
In a couple of days Proteus will be a reality in EVE, might as well get it off your chest now.

While i like your thread Ranger, I have a feeling this one will be locked.
All the discussion for and against d-scan immunity is in the Features & Ideas Discussion Thread on the Recon Rebalance.
For me, it's no more than a gimic and not game changing, but there are a lot of different views of the community discussed elsewhere and I can appreciate that it's a hot topic.
Exeq/Navy Exeq/Oneiros look fine to me as is and with the new design. The animations are kind of cool.
Asteroid Belts: flavour for others and not a problem for me personally. I don't spend time in asteroid belts.
Rookie mining anomolies: I expect it will see an influx of less than new players to mine their little hearts out. This may create issues because ganking in starter systems is something that requires some caution, but I hope if non-new players head there to mine, they are ganked repeatedly.

I'm still holding my argument that people like myself are going to head off into w-space to a low class wormhole with easy to cycle connections to other low class wormholes. Cycle static until you find an active one and with your recon their ONLY warning will be a new signature in the system. I used to try this with covert ops but people in wormholes tend to catch those on d-scan as they re-cloak. Not any more! |

Who cares.
While you won't be able see it on d-scan, you sure as hell will see it landing on grid. You'll have plenty of time to do 'something' since it going to take sometime for him to land and target you.
I see it no different than if a ship decloaks near/next to you. You still have ample time to do 'something' because of the targeting delay from cloaks.

A lot of wormholers sit alts on the connections when they are active in system. D-Scan won't be needed for them because they'll see what your ship is anyway.
If you go rolling holes, they'll see a new sig too and you are putting ships at risk to roll holes in the first place.
I'm sure you'll catch many people and good luck to you, but if people aren't managing their safety properly, then getting caught is their own fault.
Those that are managing their safety properly will possibly just set a trap for you.
Either way, good content and fun.

I think of it this way: Dscan immunity is near-equivalent to having a Cov Ops cloak, with a few benefits and downsides:
+No short window where you show up on D-scan before recloaking +No using a high slot (That most (All?) Cov Ops ships have open for the cloak anyways)\ -Still probe-able, so the vigilant J-space farer will be safer than against a cloaky ship -Will show up on Grid sooner than a cloaky would (If you happen to jump in outside of tackle range, you can cloaky slowboat in range -- can't do that with a Combat Recon)
So overall...What makes them that much different than a cloaky T3, a Force Recon, or a Stealth Bomber? |

Definitely going to be interesting seeing how many of them pop up on grid in pockets with L3-4+ mission runners, ratting, etc. whilst they've got 7+ aggro they're engaging at present.

Thats why this thread is dedicated to discussing more than just the recon changes, or whether or not they should be implemented.
This thread is about Proteus as a whole, and what the overall implications will be (for good or ill) for the player base.

I think you have confused me with someone who doesn't like the recon changes.
All I have done here is to point out some of the concerns players have been debating since the content for the Proteus release was announced... in as neutral a way as possible. I put my opinions in the video, not in this thread.
I think you skimmed this one a little too quickly this time Serene. Judging from your post we probably see eye to eye on most of what's about to arrive in Proteus.

Interestingly, its not ganking in newbie systems that is verboten, its "greifing new players". Who is greifing the new player, the guy ganking an exhumer (which by its training times cannot be a newbie), or the veteran miner deliberately (and inefficiently) mining out all the newbie-specific belts? I'd think there would be some mileage in reporting exhumer pilots who are stripping the newbie belts clean.

He kept talking and talking about how I am a griefer, how I will get banned, blablabla ... all from the safety of the docking range. I killed a few members of his corp, but the rest never even logged already long before I started the wardec.

I find it quite distasteful to mine in a rookie system, of all the places someone could mine.
It was an age ago, but I do remember having to travel more than 2 jumps just to find belts that weren't stripped, or were being stripped.
It's such a shame that Rookie systems are 0.9+, as CODE. could probably do good work out there. |

This exactly. I don't see why so many people decided that dscan immunity will somehow be the end of a game that already allows other ships to warp cloaked. You can put out probes and still be as aware of what's coming at you after this change as before, where as you STILL can't see cloaky ships coming at you.
The people saying dscan immunity is the end of the world are just 'solo' player who solo in ships to small to mount expanded probe launchers....yet somehow some of those same ...solo... players can manage to have a link alt lol.

For those of you who may watch the linked video, I'd like to apologize for an error.
The Naga animation was slipped in with the Rhea update, but they broke the sensor dish animation when they did so. I had missed this fact and thought the hull animation was releasing in Proteus, but they were simply repairing the dish animation.
Still, since I missed it in my last update I'm leaving it in (it's a great animation).
I've put a correction in the video.
Sorry about that.
