There is a mathematical explanation to why people pod kill others players, I will try and explain.
Pod = W
Guns = X
Podded = Y
W + X +Y =Z
Z = Kill mail
MWHAHAHA 
Its only a game so my wife tells me

Now I don't remember any of my high school calculus, but I'm sure some braniac can come up with a mathematical expression f(satisfaction) where satisfaction becomes asymptotic as W+X approaches Z. Is that right?

hmm it could be
(W+X)=Y+Z
or should it be Y=Z as the end result is always the same. Where are the geeks when you need one.

It doesn't make sense because you can't divide like that =(
W + X = Y + Z would not simplify to Z=(W+X)/Y
You would have to divide everything by Y, giving (W+X)/Y = 1 + Z/Y
And that just gets confusing :P

let me try
W < X
so X - W = Y
Z = Y
so
if pod is greater than guns and guns take somthing away from pod to make a new number called podded then the result of podded also equals kill mail
or
0> = podded + killmail
0 to 10= pod
5 = guns
W = pod
X = guns
Y = podded
Z = killmail
W - X = W - X = W - X = Y = Z
now im confused
now lets add a ships to that too

If X + W = Y then Y = Z and Z makes you happy. Ask any doc we all need our Z's.

Not really sure. Maybe If we could use your pod for testing. It does make since though. The question is... what if there are multiple people adding X to W? does Z get multiplied by 0.5? How would that work out exactly?

As the op stated;
Pod = W
Guns = X
Podded = Y
Z = Kill mail
As Z is reliant on Y being greater than 0 i'd say its;
Z = Y(W+X)

IF $Y > 0 {
echo $Z }
else {
echo "j00 R n00b!"
}
