So I was looking at my options for mining in hostile space with no backup and found that only the venture and the prospect had any real merit since none of the other ships could really pvp when caught, and that got me thinking of the possible addition of a mining cruiser that could actually fit a bit of tank, have a prop mod and have respectable damage output for being t1. Mind you I only need the illusion that I might actually win a 1v1 against another t1 cruiser with the proper piloting instead of gtfo or die whenever something mildly threatening appears on scan.
ORE Mining cruiser :
1 mining yield bonus 1 drone damage/yield/hp bonus
1 turret hardpoint for strip miner 0-3 missile hardpoints
10k -15k m3 ore hold
50/125 drone bay
" Nothing special " align time
" Meh " speed
" It's decent " tank
" Looks like a cruiser " sig radius
" It's a tight fit " PWG / CPU
3H / 5M / 4L or something similar with 11-13 slots
What I'm trying to make is something that has 80-90% of the effectiveness of a t1 cruiser that also has an ore-hold and can mine somewhere between the effectiveness of a venture and a procurer.
I would like to hear your thought, is it good, 'meh', or should I be podded repeatedly for proposing the next master bait ship? |

i think if you need all that wrapped into 1 ship, you end up gimping yourself in both roles. much better to just mine in a fleet or dont go into "hostile" space (all space is hostile) |

A skiff is the ship you stepping for. Also for the record mining barges and exhumers are cruiser sized. |

Ah fond memories of the mining osprey, which my navitas was superior to.
It would be fun to have an osprey style mining cruiser again, but really the fun was getting the basic skills to sit in the ship and drive it around the parking lot, and then using your new toy and watching as your yeild goes up like crazy with every skill upgrade. Gotta say that there's really no need for this. |

CCP has already turned this page, focused mining ships - look at the ORE ones.

Barge and exhumer fit that description.
Barges feel like battleships with frig fitting space, yes the skiff has high hp and can tank for a while but i was looking for something that had some options other then sit and tank them, like being able to pull range with a cruiser sized mwd instead of having to use a frig one or having fitting some proper sized asbs to have an active tank that isn't laughable. The venture has some actual fitting capabilities and if fit with guns it can make a 'meh' but doable pvp ship.
If you compare the venture to another t1 frig like the tristan you see that the venture gave up 2 low slots and 15/30 drone bay to be a mining ship yet still has frig agility, speed, tank, and fitting space. Then why can there not be a cruiser that does the same, and before you repeat that the skiff sacrificed slots, agility, speed and fitting space and essentially everything that would make it feel like a cruiser for an oversized tank makes fail to fit the description of a mining cruiser. |

If they created your ship idea, barely anyone would use it because the skiff would do a better job of mining with a tank anyway. We used to have 4 mining cruisers and they were barely used because everybody actively mining was going for barge an exhumer anyway if they wanted to go deep into mining.
I guess you could try the vexor to see what you get out of a cruiser with bonused mining drones. You even have turret slot for additionnal mining lasers. |

I believe that was because with no ore hold jet can mining was the only way to mine before the rebalance, that and the racial mining cruisers had bonuses that fit more on a logi and could neither mine nor pvp with any reasonable degree of success nor could they do both at the same time without being called ****-fit. |

Do a stat comparison between the skiff and vexor. I think you'll find the skiff comes out on top in many ways.

What the OP is suggesting would have less mining output than a skiff and less tank for more mobility and more fitting options to give the pilot more control of the fit. I support it vehemently and wish to point out that there is a very dramatic difference between this suggestion and a Skiff. It's all in the options, and Skiff has none.
I also am opposed to large ore holds in the Venture, this mining cruiser, and any other mining/combat hybrid hull. Jet-can mining was one of multiple solutions to the small cargohold. I think a bit of an ore bay is good so that the pilot doesn't have to dump the ore every minute or two, but it need only be large enough to reduce the tedium of mining, not large enough to haul back to station every time it fills up. Forcing players to overcome drawbacks creates content, and jet-can mining was fun due to all of the unknown factors and changing dynamics.
