Just out of curiosity- is there any word on the Dominix redesign that was announced at Fanfest 2014... you know, since Fanfest 2015 is close... (March)
I did a search to see if the topic actually existed and noticed that there were a few locked topics from GD, so I'm posting in the appropriate subforum (I believe) to inquire. (I also searched for an official photo/render release, and couldn't find a link- but I know there's a few floating around the web)
I know there was no "official blog announcement" made, but I don't think CCP would go to the length of announcing with visuals unless they actually had a plan to release the content at some point, no? |

idk if this is the one you're talking, but googled it and damn this is good: http://www.evemanufacturing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/dominix-fanfest-redesign.png
it keeps that dominix feel but makes it more interesting/a bit slimmer |

Eh, I don't want a redesign on the Dominix.
That concept art basically looks like a large Vexor.... Keep Dominix as it is. |

Well, you've got a point, it does seem like an enlarged Vexor. I think my main issue with the Dominix is like with so many well-known drone based hulls (older ones mainly) they don't really have a visible flight deck. (as in, where do the drones come out?) Or for that matter, even a visible door or something.
It's mainly an aesthetic thing- but we are speaking of aesthetics, after all. I could care less for arguing "symmetry vs asymmetry" in this one. I really loved when the Argos was released, for example- because it's plain to see it's a drone ship by its decks/bays. |

If you look at the Dominix from behind, in between those two lower engines hanging down there's what looks (to me at least) like a great big hatch. Also Youtube "day of darkness 2", that vid has the drones launching from that area.
But hey it's just my personal opinion of where they're launched from, that bit always seemed to make the most sense. I could easily be totally wrong. |

Just reviewed the video- and I don't see drones launching from that area- I see them flying parallel to the ship, however. There's no open "hatch" in the video, either. (can you queue me to a timecode where it shows thus?)
Could be interpreted as a "hatch" could be just armor plate, too. Anyway, not to digress, but most ships with visible flight decks (apocalypse, stratios, etc.) you can actually see them really clearly. |

I've pointed it out before, but that looks terrible. I'm not saying the current Domi is without flaw, but I don't think they should be turning it into some Soviet-era armored train, either.
I'm really disappointed if that's the final design. The best Gallente hulls (Vexor, Thorax, Brutix [especially the Brutix], Hyperion, current Domi) all emphasize detail, complexity, and extreme curves. Unfortunately, that design seems to follow on the heels of the new Exequror: basic, void of detail, heavily armored.
Not a fan. |
