i've only been playing a few days, so it will be a while before i can get cruise missles for my kessie, which is what i think i want to do in the long run. for now my options are either light missles or rockets. i like the idea of missles since they have longer range and my kessie is slow, so it takes me a while to get in range for rockets (i've got an ab, but it's still slow). by the time i get to them, they've smacked my shield pretty good. can anyone with more experience give me some advice on which is better at this point and maybe tips on using them most effectively? thanks in advance |

I say missles. I still use heavy missles on my omen. 1 heavy arabalest launcher and 4 medium lasers..

Even if I can only use light missles though? It will be a little bit before I can use heavy... |

You'll never use anything bigger than Standard Missiles on a Kestrel, nothing bigger will fit, so go with those, if you cant fit them all..train more skills :)

You pretty much nailed it on the head.. Rockets will do more DPS than light missiles once you get in range.. The only problem is surviving long enuff to get in range.. Can be hard to do.. I've always preferred light missiles on a Kessie since I can shoot my opponent and they can't shoot me.. I have no qualms about this, I think it is a good thing.. It's what Caldari do..

You'll probably have to live with only 3 standard launchers on your Kestrel, especially if you're new and can't use Micro Auxiliary Power Cores.
For experienced pilots, the Kestrel is one of the funniest rocket spewers ships out there

It's generally accepted that the kestrel is meant for light missiles, as the ship is fairly vulnerable at close range. Having a lower agility than your average frigate and also a moderate max speed make it uncomfortable to maneuver against other frigates who may be sporting a nos, and it's very bad if your opponent is bigger and may have fitted a smartbomb or too. They're kind of fragile and kind of slow, but their damage is unparalleled by any t1 frigate. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |
