Would be nice if the new belt effect did the following:
- Made a tiny noise as they hit your ship
- Took off 1 shield after a few hits
Would make it more immerse

and for the new players that don't have this on by default?
now they are just confused as to what that sound is and why they are taking damnage

That would only be possible if the new tiny rock fragments were in fact actual objects in space rather than just part of an effect the way that gas clouds in a mission site are part of an effect. |

I've always liked ideas like this.
But how about this idea...
Moving through an asteroid belt causes... say... 1% damage for every 10,000 meters transversed? (numbers can be debated)
All Ore and (Racial) Industrial ships would be immune to this as they are designed to occasionally operate in asteroid belts.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Interceptor nerf inbound
I actually find the dynamic of that very appealing. Environments affecting ship choice? "To counter their ceptors we're staging the battle in the asteroid field." Perhaps not a very well thought or fleshed out idea, but cool to think about. |

Ohgod, can you imagine? Interceptors detonating the moment they land in a belt. |

edit: How about time based? Say every 10 (or something) seconds? This might make it more fair for kiters... but less so for buffer tankers.

I think it's fair to take the real-life approach and factor it based on velocity^2 and the ship's cross-section (pi*signatureradius^2). Very fast ships and very large ships will have a hard time, any MWD vessel will have a hard time, and anything not moving will be loving life.
Apart from totally gutting the meta and re-shaping the game as we know it, it would be kind of cool.
Besides who doesn't want to hear some future space asteroids version of "TERRAIN TERRAIN PULL UP PULL UP" |

Apart from totally gutting the meta and re-shaping the game as we know it, it would be kind of cool. Well that's why I put the idea out there as a straight % based damage. Larger ships would take damage relatively equal to that of smaller craft. Again, the only real loser would be buffer tanked ships (or any non-active tanking, non-mining/industrial ships).

New interceptor from ORE!prototype of armed Venture! The bright new ARTURE! :-D
Meh :-D but for real,I like the idea of some dmg in roid belts.I always wanna do something like sci-fi movies where they hide to roid belts somehow.
As for those who dont see the efect, they simply see it in info text where will be Damage from belt derbits XXX hp. |

And one more idea.
That damage can be more realistic based. Only shields will suffer from derbis and small ships. Cuz shields are just some energy field it can be harmed by derbis. Small ships...are simply small enough to be damaged by derbis.
Bigger ship will have enoug shield restore to sustain it and for armored one....well simply they are armored enough.its like throwing rocks on tank, doesnt matter how many rocks you throw, you never can hurt him by that.
As someone mentioned ORE are used to live in belts,so they have shield technology that erase derbis in theyr shields, so Venture will be safe from that damage even if is it small ship.
I know it sounds like death to the ceptors! But there can be some module from ORE that make shields immune to that dmg, some ORE field erazers or something.Sou you can be real specialized miner hunter! :-) or simply have some shield booster to rep your self.Or friend to kill target faster then die in belt.
Or add that ARTURE for real, ORE should have some small fighter for escorts in belt anyway :-D
its just idea, dont kill me :-D |
