Halo movie producer and all-round film-making god Peter Jackson has revealed that, although the Halo film's script isn't ready yet, the world in which the flick will take place is under construction.
In an interview with movie site Ain't It Cool, Jackson said: "We're still developing a script and we've still got work to go on the script, but while that's happening, Neill [Blomkamp, the director] is just producing his vision of this world. It is original and new and has not been seen before on the screen. It's not Ridley Scott, it's not James Cameron, it's not what we've seen before, but it's something new and fresh, and it's cool."
Jackson revealed that one of his responsibilities is honing the script: "It's getting much better along now and there are certainly a lot of things in it now that are working well. There are things that aren't working well in it yet, but Fran, Philippa and I are not writing the script, but, in a sense, one of the things we're contributing with our involvement in the project is being the police, the script cops! So, nothing is going to end up on the screen that doesn't get our stamp of approval."
The Lord of the Rings director is aware of the need to create something which is an order of magnitude better than the average (invariably dire) film-of-a-game: "It's so easy to shut your eyes and imagine a really bad version of Halo. That comes to you in a frighteningly simple, quick way. You think, 'Oh, my God! This could be so terrible!' I guess it's because so many other videogame movies have been terrible, and so much other sci-fi in that type of genre has been terrible."
And he confirmed that all those familiar Halo features will be present and correct: "We know that there's going to be the Covenant, we know that there's going to be Warthogs, Ghosts and Scorpions, and there's going to be the Pillar of Autumn." Could Halo be the first film-of-a-game that would actually be worth watching? It sounds promising certainly.

So the LOTR director is involved in a film which is essentially about a giant ring of power which is at the centre of a war which could see all of humanity destroyed.
hmmm, well i suppose that's an original idea... LOL
seriously though. I can't wait for this film. It had better be awesome though, cause if they screw up the Halo story then there may be no option but to firebomb Hollywood.

Don't worry, despite the fact that Cortana will be a humourless nun and the Master Chief will be a member of the Covenant, Jackson won't screw up the story all that much.
I mean, at least the movie'll look pretty, right?

I suppose it depends on what sort of right you're talking about.
I'll grant that he at least isn't Uwe Boll, so at least the Halo movie won't be an unwatchable, flaming bag of *****.

I'll bet you it will be good at least. Halo is a franchise that stands to make a lot of money, even more so than it has made. I doubt they will want to go and bugger it up with a bad movie. All other video game movies are usually based on franchises at the end of their lifespan, so it doesnt matter really if its bad, aslong as enough people watch it to come out with a small profit.
I would say Halo is far from the end of its lifespan, so they should be paying a little more attention to it.

You want to know the funny bit?
Halo is a Microsoft game but the movie for the game will be rendered on the dominant non-Microsoft operating system.
Yes, Microsoft's Halo will be rendered on Weta Digitals Linux powered rendering farm. There is simply no Windows software that can compete.

I don't think you will be the only one that explodes, infact I like to be quite far away from any halo fans when this news is released (if ever). I can see it now, NEWSFLASH: a series of bombs have gone off in London, these are not IRA or Taliban attacks, but are actually Halo fans exploding from extreme excitement, reports are not just coming in of further explosions in New York and many other cities across the globe.
I myself am not a huge Halo fan but its only because I have not had the chance to play either part 1 or 2, I bought part 1 for my PC but i ran like crap even though my comp was way above the requirements and I could not enjoy it at all, shame they had to make such a crappy PC conversion of it. I dont own any console either (unless you count the n64 or playstation1 as consoles) so have not played Halo2 either. But I'm still quite excited about this movie even if it had not been worked on by such a good director. -----------------------------

Peter Jackson is not the director, Neil Blomkamp is. Peter Jackson is the executive producer, in other words, the guy that writes checks. An executive producer is not involved in the day to day production of the film. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

I heard about this during the production of King Kong, and it was Bungie not Microsoft the made the games. It just runs on a Microsoft based operating system(yes even on the console). And if i may take a gander but i think it will be the Storyline before the first game that explains the whole bit about the Spartans and why Master Chief is the only(supposedly) left. BTW as for Halo 3 has anyone gotten the reference of "The Arc of the Covenant".. don't think it's and easy one as many of my friends who should have immeadiately picked up on this did not...
That aside I would like to see him at least take a passing look at the Wheel of Time Series, as the final book is comming out sometime..... -----------------------------------------------

I agree, I also think it'll have the battle of reach, the subsequent destruction of the Spartan's and the retrieval of Master chief in the husher casket and the Pillar of Autumns subsequent escape. However I don't think this will be the whole of the film because if it didn't also cover the events of the first Halo game then they wouldn't really be able to call the film "Halo", cause it would be entirely about 'Reach'.
I also don't think that he's "supposedly" the last Spartan, his name is John 117, and the book of revelations (written by John) chapter 1 verse 17 says something like:
"and when i saw him i fell at his feet as though dead, and he laid his hand upon me and said fear not, for I am the first and I am the last"
And considering the number of biblical references throughout Halo I don't think that passage can be dismissed.
The Arc of the Covenant thing is pretty good, I didn't make that connection, i was just thinking of it as the Ark which was used to survive the flood, which is also apparently what the forerunners used it for.
