For a while I was hunting sanshas in my raven but since my buddies were all in gun ships they would pop the rats before my missiles hit. Now I have a tempest, would this new BS work as well in the same role that my raven was in previously? Thanks. |

and what exactly was that role?
if your not bothered about loot cans, warp in at 100km and blaze away with 1400`s, if your going to do looting, then ac`s/armor tank is the way to go..
you could actually fit an armor tank on your raven if your fighting sanchas, they do em/therm damage and you should be able to get a decent armor tank with good resists on the raven,
fill the med slots with enough cap rechargers to keep your reps happy then blaze away at close range with torps/cruise. drones for the firgs

Yes, armor tanking raven is great idea for fighting sanshas. It really rocks.

I can understand why you think that Raven sucks for ratting if you were ratting with a budy in the same belt. Did a run way back way back with me in a Tempest and a corpmate in a Raven. No torps even hit when we were clearing cruiser spawns.
But for solo ratting, torps > gun. Greater DPS and longer range outweight those 10-20 sec of flight time. Get into a Typhoon if you feel Raven's tank is too weak vs. Sanshas. Though with XL boost, boost amp, 2xEM, 2xThermal it really shouldn't be.

Thanks, is there a torpedo setup for the tempest or should I have bought a Typhoon? |

I had a Typhoon and had it set up with four torps, two large arty's and a couple of ac's and that's what I used for 0.0 ratting for a couple of months. Well, my cable modem reset in the middle of beating up on a couple of BS's and when I logged back in, I was in a pod.. 
Never having flown a Tempest, I figured it was time to learn... I bought it and now it's the only thing I will rat in.
At first, I hated it. I had my Typhoon geared for semi-short range thus, that's how I was trying to fit my Tempest but BS rats just ate threw it. Frustrated, I asked a friend of mine about it and he sent me a config that he uses on his Tempest. My gun skills weren't that great so, I spent a few days buying and developing all the missing gunnery skills and now I can 'occasionally' (this will improve in time) wipe out a triple BS spawn without having to warp away for repair...
Not to mention, I REALLY like being 100km from the belt. Unless someone looking for an easy gank warps in at 100, which they nearly never do, you're sitting far enough away that you have time to get your tempest to safety.
Anyway, here's what I'm using....

med:
5 cap recharger named
Low:

1xlarge repairer tech 2
1x1600mm rolled tungsten
1xgyrostabilizer tech 2
large repairer can run forever, and 1200 artillery can hit from 10km to go, with this setup can kill easily short range spawns and long range, and put 7 medium drones in drone bay.
