Lo all,
For over 4 months now i've been a faceless toon on these forums. I was hoping they'd update the avatars of the forums last 'website maintenance' - obviously that didn't happen.
Sooooo, to make a short story even shorter: Can the avatars be updated as soon as possible? (killboard depends on it aswell :P)

Sharkbait recently posted to say that two new portrait rendering servers had been purchased (can't be bothered to find the post, sorry). Once they are installed, things will return to normal.
Of course, they'll be installed "Soon".

I do not think that the machines are really "broken".
It is more that telling it to render a pic is somehow borken.
I made this char in may. In the middle-end of may I changed my pic *twice* (yes, I know ). At the beginning of june I got a forum pic of my first change.
So the pic rednering server/program/whatever most certainly *does* work. But it rarely gets the command to do something it seems.

If I'm not mistaken, the machine was just not good enough to handle all the new people coming in. There's just too many of you.
Anyways, that is why some get their avatar showing and some doesn't. I don't know what's keeping the new machines, but I'll see if I can find out.

They could cheat a bit and when it renders the portrait for the first time on our own machines (after we spend 2h working on the nose), it could send a copy to their server for storage. So our machines do the work that one time.

i typed this while afk in a belt and lost my cruiser lol , so it deserves something thinking on
just a idea - wouldnt it be easier for ccp , and faster for us , if we could use our own avatars like most forums?
that way ,
1. we find seprate hosting , saving ccp some space.
2. ccp can sell those new servers , or use them to reduce lag in eve ( i donno , i dont know anything bout servers lol )
3. we also gain the option to use our characters portraits , or any other picture that we want ( using the forum rules tho for censorship and sizes )
maybe its a silly idea , but i think this way , everyone would be happy ? ccp saves time + money. we get what we want. it means a bit extra work for the forum moderators , but they do a good job already , checking forum sigs , i mean look @ mine! it was 2px to high lol
i really should get round to re-sizing that... damn im lazy lol/

Coming up for 8 months now without a forum portrait.
One minute we're told it's getting fixed, the next minute it's forgotten about, this is now a repeating cycle.
The forums are an essential part of Eve for many players and having a ! makes you look like some throw-away alt.
You've told us you have different teams for bug-hunting, coding, web etc... so I don't see why the web dev team can't get on this as a priority? Am actually starting to think it might never happen.

Whilst it's sometimes funny to surprise people who think you're a 2-day noob by coming at them in a Megathron, the joke's worn thin. I get the feeling that people who created Bloodlines characters, at least at the time of it's release, have been skipped over for some bizarre internal server reason. I've seen much much newer characters fromt he bloodlines get their portraits within a week or 2!

WTF has the "WebCell" been doing since t20 left? We were told more people were hired. The official EVE website has been in an atrocious state for months: having to login several time to post, user submitted acreenshot section not working, no updates for the alliance section, etc.

But seriously, although the lack of portraits doesn't affect me in the slightest, I really do think that the portraits should be brought into the forums.
