i'm reading lots of posts from people complaining about a lack of stuff to do etc - and they do seem to have a valid point. unlike EQ (for example) there aren't set goals for large groups of high level (skill point total) characters to join together and work towards. EVE simply reaches a plateau and remains there. where are the uber (godlike) npc's with ultra rare spawn items? there just doesn't seem to be an end-game to work towards!
btw: this isn't a rant etc its just a statement!!!

Eve isn't supposed to be NPC-driven.

End game = taking on a force of determined player pirates, destroying them and claiming their region.
Try it some time.

how do you "claim" a region! just because you camp all the jumpgates doesn't mean you've claimed it. it doesn't belong to you.
as for not being npc driven - thats fine, but where does the uber loot come from?
npc's are the cement of the eve universe - players come and go, but npc's have to remain to provide themed continuity!

Sure...Me first
Surely the money I give them every month they can put in a badass pirate for me and my corpmates to go and take on.

There wasnt "an end" in everquest either, basically the 2 games have the same concept.
Work hard and get uber item_01
Everquest has extremely powerful weps, we have extremely powerful battleships.
The only difference is EQ has been going for 4 years now and has a whole lot more content with the expansion packs. Plus they have a lot more funding / developers to create more content such as quests etc. Eve's equivilent are agents, only problem is theyre extremely lame at the mo.
Everquest your forced to work with others to kill Ubermob_01 to get questitem_02 to hand back to the "agent" to get uberitem_03. Makes EQ seem more worthwhile, but thats because theres so many quests made over the years thats what gives its variety. When I started playing EQ (when no expansion pack was available) EQ seemed the same as eve now, kinda dull, same old quests, limited things to do. I held out gave EQ a chance and when the expansion packs started coming out, EQs fun level jumped tremendously. It became fun, new quests items etc it was great I was hooked, as soon as I got back from work thats what I did. (Kinda had to put the hours in to get anywhere tho)
All I say is give eve some time, all MMORPGs go through a rough time at the start, when players can actually control regions, and regional wars become worth while or when the tech lvls come out and the market becomes more competitive (So long as not every Jim, Bob and Harry has access to the same items, and only a handful can make each item) then eve will become insanely great just like other MMO games. Just think of this as your training period, ok it sucks but build up resources for when the fun really begins.
