So, I was doing a level 4 in Nalvula, Lonetrek when I was scrambled by TheMask in a Loki. I offered ransom and we agreed to an amount which I eventually paid. He, never the less, continued to kill my ship.
Now, I understand the dynamics of EVE and the fact that pirates can kill you anywhere they want and it is part of the game. Although it is a pain for me, I don't complain about it, because that is EVE. However, I think it is really unethical for someone to ransom you and still kill you after you have paid. Again, I suppose this is part of EVE.
None the less, if anyone would be so kind as to cost him a lot of ISK, that would be highly appreciated. |

Unfortunately for you, This is indeed EVE and although you deem it as unethical, He felt it was acceptable to kill you, Now doing level 4s in a low sec system is just not a great idea, I'd suggest find somewhere that is only going to give you high sec missions and this won't happen

Please dont try to bring any more ethics discussions into this sub forum. Before you know it we will get the name callers and cyber-bully theorists going and this will be 30 pages. Its a game about blowing up things and stealing. He did both, bravo to him.
BUT -
Also SHAME on him. I honor ransoms (in the rare event I offer them). Dishonoring your promised ransom amount is a good way to make sure others wont pay in the future.
Honestly, I blame the proliferation of killboards. People care waaaay too much about the color of their KB these days. Its a fun tool to toss around, but it doesnt really MEAN anything, especially considering that the biggest wins in EVE cant show up on KBs. (Ransoms, stolen assets, AWOX without kills, spy ops, ect.)

I agree with the fact that this is EVE and that "unethical" behavior is part of it. But , it would still be really nice if he could loose a lot ISK because of the way he does things :)
This is a request for revenge rather than a rant about unethical behavior . |

You are doing your request for revenge wrong though.
Why would anybody go after him just for you? What is in it for us?
See how that works?

Yeah, i prefer people to honor their ransom, but if put in the same position, i would probably not honor a ransom. Its also why i never offer or accept ransoms. Whenever someone offers me a ransom, i always tell them "Sorry, im not a pirate, im a PVPer."
In any case, your "appreciation" in the form of isk would be much more highly appreciated by the people who will kill this guy. Maybe try and offer people 500 mill isk or something to anyone who can cause 600 mill in damage to him?
Also, youre a 2008 player, and yet youve never heard of a situation where a pirate didnt honor the ransom? |

If you are doing l4's in low, your attitude shouldn't be "What happens if I get jumped in the mission?".
It should be, "I'm going to get jumped in my mission, and had better plan accordingly."
That means going in combat (ie, PVP) fit, and hopefully having a bunch of drooling teenagers lurking next system over in assault frigates/cruisers...that you are fleeted up with...:)
And then you rack up dem Loki kills, until they figure out you is bait, you betcha!
Everything in EVE is a trap.
And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

That's what I love about Eve, it's so close to real life.
So you're about to get mugged, and you offer the criminal more money? And you are surprised that the mugger didn't abide by your standards of right and wrong? And you complain it was unethical for him to steal your money?
You obviously did not grow up in a large City.
Chalk this up to a great life lesson. Be thankful it was learned in Eve. |

Love your post and outlook, but don't quite agree fully on this point.
I've never seen anything wrong with killboards. Like many parts of the game it's just more statistics, another spreadsheet, another thing that is somewhat symbolic - A score card in some ways, for some. No shame in loving your killboard stats and making it one of your game goals to keep a good looking one.
I don't care two ***** about ISK myself, and in a scenario such as the OP I would have (and have before) refused to ransom, ignored the convo and just took the kill because that's more important to me. I'd never try to have my cake and eat it too though, and for the pilot in question to do that reflects on his own honor rather than anything to do with killboards' influence imo.

Somehow this disturbs me. Sounds like it's ok to be a mugger in real life oO
However it's good that people tell in the forums if someone doesn't honor ransoms. True pirates would have it much easier if the wannabe pirates were filtered out this way... |

My point: Never pay ransoms, and if you do, you should be pleasantly surprised if it all works out for you. |
