Idea is this, although it may be a lot of work to refresh the test server (by refresh I mean, copy tranquility onto it) I was thinking, if they could just update the skills on the test server and forget about everything else, say once a week, it would make it much more useable.
I know more people would use the test server that way and therefor we would be able to work more bugs out in EVE.

Edited by: Akane Miyamoto on 25/09/2006 08:13:28 Professionals suggest reading the stickies. The next mirror will come with Kali to SiSi. And if they'd to mirrors weekly it'd take way too much resources off actual developement.. If you want to be a more advanced tester, apply for bughunters.

I doubt it. Mirroring just the skills portion of tranquility is a much smaller job than mirroring the universe since the universe consists of : bookmarks, corp hangers, player hangers, items in space, escrow, market, player skills, and probably another dozen taht I can't think of.
Mirroring just skills is all we really need for testing, so why not just do that and do it often?

For a real answer you'd need a dev who knows about it, but from past comments I'd guess the answer would include one or more of the following :
"We want the test server environment as close as humanly possible to the live server one" "Seperating the skill data might cause us to miss a bug that would have otherwise shown up or introduce new bugs all on its own" "The skills data is still so large it has to be sent by courier like the full database is now" . ----- Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

and what about those peeps that want to test but have their accounts expired?? a mirror as you are suggesting would not cover this! |
