Several times now I've lost ships because my orbiting inty has gotten caught in roids and WTFpwned by a few lucky missiles as I MWD into a chunk of veldspar. While it is possible to avoid them manually the speeds involved often take me out of disruptor range for a sec or two, long enough for my prey to escape... Or there is another ship at range and when I'm at the top and bottom of my orbit (relative to him) my transversal is poo and I get killed.
How about when you select orbit at Xkm a bar comes up passing through the centre of the target, you swivel the mouse around and adjust the angle, you click once for X axis and then another one comes up for the Y axis. Job's a good un. This could be something that you can decide if you want to pop up in the menu or whatever. ------------

There should be a better interface than the one you describe, but yes I think it would be good if we could determine the orbit.
Perhaps it could go off the current direction/etc of your ship.

it's a good idea, but like Zarch AlDain said it does need a better interface. A simple orbit in X,Y,Z would be enough
