YES; you should absolutely train drones.
Drones FTW
As far as which ones to use, it depends on your target. Whichever damage type your target is vulnerable to, there is a drone that has that damage type.
If you are facing battleships, certainly heavy drones would be the best. Angels are vulnerable to explosive, so you are going to want to use Berserkers, which do explosive damage.
I am not sure what kind of drone bays are on Caldari ships though; if you are flying a Dominix, you have the option to bring with you several different drone groupings.
Not sure how effective the specialty drones (ECM, Webber, Energy Neut) will be versus NPC targets.

Well i dont have problems with battleships because i have heavy missile launchers. The problem is small ships what category of drons should i use to kill small ships ?

The Ferox has a 25 m^3 drone bay, so all you CAN use is light scout drones. That's okay though, because they're best for taking out frigate swarms anyway.

I agree with GC13. A set of 5 light drones will serve you well against Frigates that get up close and personal with you, and let you concentrate on the bigger targets.
Generally speaking with Drones, use as many as you can, no matter what. While you could pop one Heavy Drone in that drone-bay, you'll be better served by the five light Drones. Your missiles'll do plenty of damage on the bigger ships anyway, so no real need to throw the drone's at 'em anyway.

The key with drones for mission running and ratting is to sort them by damage type. They don't make it entirely clear, but if you read them over, here's the breakdown:
GALLENTE Drones always do THERMAL damage: ogre (light) hammerhead (medium) hobgoblin (heavy) garde (sentry)
MINMITAR Drones always do EXPLOSIVE damage: warrior valkyrie berserker bouncer
AMARR Drones always do EM damage: acolyte infiltrator praetor curator
CALDARI Drones always do KINETIC damage: hornet vespa wasp warden
This info holds true for both the tech 1 and the tech 2 versions of the drones, although the four racial drone specialization skills only impact the tech 2 versions. I like to keep them sorted in station cans labeled for damage type. Use a site like eveinfo.com, or look in lots of peoples bios, to determine which types of rats are most vulnerable to which types of damage.
Size usage is pretty straight-forward... use light drones for frigates and interceptors, medium drones for cruisers and heavies for battleships. You may be able to mix them up a bit... for example, if it's a slower frigate a medium drone might work fine. Or if it's a battlecruiser or a slow cruiser, you could use heavies or mediums. When I'm in a setup that relies on drones, I generally make sure that I carry at least five heavies and five lights, and mediums if I have room. If your ships is setup to be good against large ships (i.e. torpedoes or 1400mms) then carry light drones to handle smaller targets, and vice-versa.

err, lets try
Hobgoblin - light Hammerhead - Medium Ogre - Heavy

5 X HobGoblinII's should give you the best DPS of all the light drones, no mater the enemy. ___________________

That is untrue. Yes, Gallente drones (ogre, hammerhead, hobgoblin) have higher damage outputs then the other drone types. If you were fighting someone with the same resists across the board, or an unknown level of resists, they're a good way to go. However, being that it's all thermal damage, it definitely matters who your enemy is.
If you're fighting something with 90% thermal resists and 25% EM resists, the EM drones are going to be much better then the thermal, despite a slightly lower base damage. Again, there are a lot of different sources for finding out what rats have what resists.

A lot of rats, similar to non-boosted player ships, have fairly low Explosive Resistance. Valkyrie II's make short work of those once you get through their shields. I've had pretty good results using 2x Hammerhead II and 3x Valkyrie II's in lvl 3 missions myself.
(Valkyrie's are also faster, which sometimes comes in handy.)

Also train the Drone Interfacins skill. It requires Drones lvl 5 and gives 20% damage bonus per level. When I got it the difference was very noticable. ___________________________________________________ Serenity Prime Is Recruiting |
