Hey all,
In 2013, a few of us CCPers and players went together on a small ski trip at the local ski area. We had a blast even though the weather was not kind to us. We want to do this again, and wanted to check the interest.
We'd just keep the same format as in 2013, keep it unofficial and basically just a group of people going skiing/snowboarding together and having a good time.
Most of what I wrote in the 2013 thread still applies, although the dates are different, and the prices for pass and rental are 200ISK higher.
This point still very much applies: "The ski area is often closed due to wind, so we always just hope for the best, donGÇÖt get too disappointed if it will be closed"
The idea is to leave Reykjav+¡k around 1pm and arrive at the ski area about the time it opens (2pm) but I'm not sure which date works better, Tuesday (17th) or Wednesday (18th).
If you are interested in joining, please reply and say which date would suit you bettter, keeping in mind the player vs dev soccer match is on the 17th at 8pm and the Goldern Circle tour will be on the 18th (as far as I know).
We'll probably not be able to pick at that works for everyone, but having this info will at least help us make a somewhat informed decision 
(we should be able to make it back in time for the soccer match if we were to pick Tuesday, but would maybe be a bit tired during the game)
I'll update this post when we have more details decided

We'd loved to have you go with us, but Fanfest time is busy and lot stuff going on so it's totally understandable that people can't participate in everything

Just so we are clear, this is not an official event so there is no "transport" to the location.
People will have to organize and rent a car together, but we seem to have plenty of people so I don't think that should be a problem :)

It could be kind of tricky to have this as an official event because you never know what the weather will be like and if the ski area will be open. It's just an idea I got 2 years ago so I just asked people to join me on the slopes and have fun together

For anyone who is interested, it's worth knowing that in 2013 I could not find anyone in Reykjavik or at the slopes who would hire out ski clothing. Boots, goggles and ski's are all available for hire, but no one seemed to hire ski pants, jackets or gloves, you're expected to bring your own, so if you're coming from somewhere where it never snows either find someone ahead of time who can lend you snow proof gear or budget approx $AU700 to buy the gear in Reykjavik.

I recon I am gonna do the skiing for two days if I can get one or two others to come with me as I am arriving on the 16th, so will probably end up doing it on the 17th and 18th, after one day of skiing my legs might just be starting to warm up again after 6 years of not skiing. |

I will not be able to attend on wednesday. I might still be interested in going tuesday if anyone else is up for it? I am however flying tomorrow at 8pm gmt+1 so it would be great if anyone interested in tuesday could reply as fast as possible so I know if I need to pack cloth for this. |

Fair enough - I didn't see the post about renting snow gear. Either way, I found my gear. Ya'll are going to get to see me faceplant, dive, roll, and otherwise enjoy my way down the mountain any way but on my feet.
When will we know when and where we're all meeting up?
Also - how crazy of a place is it? I've never run with a helmet, but is that a really dumb idea here? I've only ever hit slopes in the northeastern US. |

It's a tiny ski area, but I always use a helmet.
I think it's a bit silly to snowboard without a helmet, but I guess falling on skis is less common.

Honestly I don't have the room to bring a helmet in my luggage and I asked both the ski place and the rental place said that they don't have/rent helmets and know no one who does. So If I ski/snowboard it will have to be without a helmet.

yeeaahGǪ I'm a boarder. And I agree, it's a bit sillyGǪ I should get a helmet, but I haven't been riding enough lately to merit the purchase. After Equto's post, I'll see what kind of thing I can swing out here. See if I can finally find one. |

I can loan someone a helmet, but tbh, if we have someone going who has never snowboarded in their life, I'd rather lend it to them, because they really need it.

It closes at 21, and I believe the rental also closes then, but we (the bus) will leave around 6pm... that should be plenty of time, but you could of course keep going since you have a car.

I have some bad news... the wind is not being nice to us (not the first time this week it's causing me trouble :P) and currently the ski area is closed. They'll have more news around noon, but it doesn't look good and I think it's likely that we have to cancel the whole thing :(

Sadly the ski trip has been cancelled :(
I'm really sorry about that, the wind forecast was looking so good 2 days ago, but now it's really windy up there and they won't open the mountain today.
