Kind of Like Experience,
It reflects The Crew Working together for longer. And in return the Ship gains attributes in areas, be it faster lock time, or sheild recharge times etc...
The older the ship the better. It would certainly help people to stop Chucking a BS into a fight without fear of loss , if they realise that the ship might actually get better ! (Obviously Stuck in a hanger for 3 months would yeild nothing)
Could keep it true to eve leveling system ,and only allow 5 Levels. Which Degrade through Lack of use ?
N.B. This is no reflection to World of warcraft Grinding. |

It would make mission runners uber. A CNR that's been un combat for six hours a day for five months would be like a dreadnought.

Errr, no.... Ships in eve don't have a crew just one pilot in a pod. That's kinda the whole point... And yeah, mission runners in their faction fitted CNR would become uber and the people who actually play the game taking risks and losing ships but have fun would lose out.

Read some of the Cronicles. Theres one, "Hand of a Killer" right near the top that talks about ship crews.

I raised this question a while ago, but instead of having the level system I suggested a more conventional solution that would also get rid of the "problem" with mission runners:
Have some crew slots, and buy / sell crew on the market as you'd do with any module. Different crews would be good at different things, some specialize in certain classes etc.
It reminds of mods, but it could become far more interesting, som examples that are obvious:
- Factionize them, so that only certain peope will work for your race. - Let them lose effiency when structure is broken, after all - who wouldn't in space? - Have a supplies bay, kind of like the drone bay, where you could load Quafe, food and water for them. (This would also influence those npc markets.) - Introduce crew related skills: Emergency organizing (crew doesnt lose as much effiency when structure/hull breaches), Workforce connection (can use % of crew from races that factions wouldnt allow else), etc
I'm not interested in discussing the above, they're just examples of how many ways the idea can be impleneted.

No, we want people to throw more ships into battles without fearing loss, not less. If ships became valuable enough, then people will refuse to take them to battle. Here's what would happen to people who had ships that become really powerful:
-People would rarely take their best ship to battle -Veteran pilots will gain even more advantages over newer players -People will be more likely to resort to lame tactics (such as logging) in order to save their prized possesions -Carebears will, in effect, become more powerful than the brave
