I am at Manchester Met Uni, and ofc any filesharing programs dont work. However, using HTTP-tunnel, I have got Ares to work and its works ok. I have also got Bit torrent to work, but its taken about 24hours to dl 100mb or so. The dl speeds on BT are worse then 56k.
Anyone have any ideas about getting it to work better? I really want to be able to watch lost when series 3 comes out

You're going to have to tunnel more than just HTTP. Make sure all the ports that your bittorrent client is using are forwarded.

Why's that? Its the fastest peer-to-peer file sharing program and the easiest to set up.

1. Download uTorrent stand-alone client. Its about 160kb.
2. Forward ports.
3. ???
4. Profit!

I would do all that but... I have no files I want to share and there are no files I want.

From a tracker I know:
Originally by: KAA FAQ
BitComet, BitLord, BitSpirit, and other variants are banned from the KAA tracker, due to cheating. Please get another client. Check the BitTorrent page for a list of recommended clients. For those wondering, you may see BitComet connections on occasion. The banning cannot affect peer to peer connections. It appears that if there is a spoofed client on the torrent, BitComet, with the new peer sharing thing will allow BitComet to connect to peers.
This could be why, if the tracker you are downloading from bans BitSpirit.

Does your client read the torrent as "green" (i.e. NAT is fine, etc)?

Edited by: Mak''shar Karrde on 29/09/2006 01:51:12 I wondered why my BitComet seemed to be rather slow... Now I'm using uTorrent and getting nice speeds. I can finally catch up on SG1 again. I only missed one episode on Sky but have refused to watch it since then.
Thanks DS.

No, I think the NAT is borked. I probably haven't setup the ports correctly, so next step?

Make sure the client isn't randomizing the port it's listening on. uTorrent atleast has that functionality.

What are you using as your server for tunneling, if it's a 'free' service you are likely on a very limited bandwidth tunnel.. Also bittorrent has loads of connections and this could also be an issue.
Slightly random question, but you're not connecting through a wlan are you?
