Actually, they did. They were simply routed in a matter of hours. If there's one thing the Islamic civilizations (such as they are) will never be good at, it's third generation warfare.
As for the movie itself, I thought it was powerful, although a bit lionizing of the guy, a bit too flashbacky, and somewhat loose with the facts. (among some of Kyle's more ludicrous claims in his book was having shot several people who were looting during the aftermath of Katrina [one of the many hurricanes that has destroyed the "city" of New Orleans] from the top of a football stadium)
Overall, I give it a 7/10. Eastwood delivers as he usually does, a film certainly worth your eight bucks.

Yeah, they're bing told that everone that gets shot a by a US Soldier is a martyr and goes to paradise after death. It really is an absolutely awesome and cool thing to get shot dead by one of the invaders sent by the devil... Everyone should do it at least once...

When fighting savages, forcing uniformed soldiers to play by the 'Queen's rules' so the political class gets to have 'clean hands' seems quite unreasonable.
Interesingly enough, when Israel faces the very same circumstances in Ghaza, they manage to kill a bit over 1 civilian per militant, rather than 25 civilians per militant as the USA do.
That doesn't spares that some American dude dared to scorn Israel for "killing too many civilians"...

Are you seriously comparing 'burning a prisoner to death in a cage and advertising it like dish soap', with run-of-the-mill wartime civilian casualties? Do I really need to point out how stupid that sounds?
When gutless Muslims use mosques as ambush positions and babies as human shields - resulting in said babies and mosques getting bombed to kingdom come - those insurgents and their civilian supporters are going to loudly scream 'Atrocity!' on CNN in a pathetic effort to win the PR war. Most rational people realize that If smelly bearded men with AK-47s are using your rooftop/place of worship as a platform for shooting at American soldiers or aircraft - it might be a good idea to get your baby out of that particular house, before the Americans start shooting back.
The shocking bit which Kyle pointed out in his book, is that mothers were willingly putting their small children into the line of fire - or allowing themselves to be used as human shields. In which case....they simply got what was coming to them, because American lives came first.
The real question is.....how many babies/women would Ssabat Thraxx be hiding behind when he goes out to shoot at 'Murican soldiers? Two? Three? Why not a whole nursery? He might even get that slag Christine Amanpour to do a cable news special!  |
