Today were fighting our very first war. So far we have podded them over and over, and have not taken any losses. Its just the first day.
Well today a corp mate was watching the jump in point, in pops one of the guys from earlier, he comes up as our enemy (Enemy corp) So my corp mate starts to shoot him, 3 shots into the fight he gets the "your sec status has been lowered message", great, the guy quit his corp in the middle of battle.
What the heck is with this tactic?
Ok, I am not whining, I just want some input from the community. It just seems odd, We didnt declare war, our region has enough issues as it is. why bother with more than one headeache. I think they just declared war on us because:
1) We appear to just be a mining corp (wrong). 2) They were bored, arent we all. 3) Someone paid them enuff money to go have more fun. Always possible.
Im sure to get flamed. But thats what i get for posting on the flame section of the forum.

Its cheap, and Ive seen it if you cant stand a fight, dont start a war it makes you look worse when half your corp leaves just to save themselves ------------------------------------------------ Do not let the world change you. Change the world
Here's everything I know about war: somebody wins, somebody loses, and nothing is ever the sa |

What he didnt mention was that the guy later on joined back into his corp. He just quit his corp during the fight so that our guy would lose security status. To be honest I had at least some amount of respect for Mercenary Frigates before this incident. I mean they are doing something (fighting in frigates) that is pretty difficult to do successfully. The cheeseball tactic of switching corps in mid fight just to screw someones security status is just lame.

Well, ask Techell how the GM's respond to people who quit there corp mid-fight. If I recall correctly, some TLBC guys quit mid-fight in a sec system and Concord blew the Techell guys up. Techell petitioned it, they got their ships back and the TLBC guys got a stern warning.

That should be a bannable offense.
Or if people can't fight with dignity just make so people can't leave a corp while the corp is at war with another corp.

Tsk tsk this game has problem! But why this didn't happen in the first few months of game play? Guess everyone was too busy mining so war is not an issue? . Well well, we are still beta testing the game, right? right???

Gotta say that is one of the lamest fighting 'tricks' next to can/drone/mine/whatever lagging.
Wars are a dirty thing and I've done all kinds of things to get the upper hand in a War (in other games), but never did I 'exploit' some game feature to my benefit to do so.
Report the person, and the bit of respect I had for MF, just got lowered a notch.

Petition, nothing to be ashamed of. You don't have to be a carebear to petition this "tactic", I hear people have almost (?) been banned for using it. Very lame.

Yeah it's very lame and makes the whole idea of war a mockery. Mercenary Frigates are always on the boards calling people carebears for not wanting to fight and it's more than a little ironic that when someone does fight back they pull tricks like this. Did I hear someone say carebears?
Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure? |

It's CCP's fault for not making the quit option carry a time penalty. anyone could claim tehy done it by mistake.
still 4-5 people doing it at the same time obviously is planned. but if they want to start banning people for it they havent really got a leg to stand on legally wise. "Teh lord of Nonni"

Sure... He mistakenly went to Corp Folder before (or during) a battle, mistakenly opened the Members Tab and during the battle he mistakenly right clicked on his character, mistakenly selected 'Leave Corp' and mistakenly confirmed that as well.
It's a know 'feature' to be able to leave your corp in a hurry, using this 'feature' in this way is what in my definition is an 'exploit'.
As long as CCP will just give a small warning to not do so again instead of banning the account for a week on first offense, people will always use exploits as the benefits outweigh the non-existent penalty.

Lame tatic that only cowards use. AFAIK you can petition it and the person will get a warning/ban and you ship and sec status will be fixed.
IF the GM's can prove that it occured. They should be able to since they must be able to see that corp A fights corp B and member of B suddenly quits then later rejoins. Smells fishy. á

Mmm.. I guess abusing game functions in a way they were not intended to gain etc advantages over other plays is an exploiting if anything.
..and CCP has gone out with info that they will not tolerate such behavior.. so I can't see why people that do this get away with a warning. Should lead to a temporary ban atleast. ________________________________________________

Edited by: voogru on 25/10/2003 15:08:36 Just FYI, I am the corp mate Salazar was talking about.
I petitioned and sent them screenshots/logs and pretty much everything I had agiast them. I consider myself very lucky because the cops didnt show up and whoop my ass, I only lost around -0.09 sec status as well, but still.
If anyone tries this tactic on me be assured that I will petition, I am not a carebear, If they play properly and kick my ass, great. But if they try to exploit because they lack the balls to fight for real, then they are just a bunch of lamers.

where in the HELL does it mention merc frigates???? stop being an arse just for the sake of it.
And WRT the post, I can't agree more, quitting corp mid battle should be a bannable offence, that's probably the most childish thing I've heard off happen in this game. I even extend that to quitting the corp just to be able to travel/mine in peace but there you go, that's jus' my opinion.

It was them. Sal didnt mention their name, but im not so nice. Mercenary Frigates is the corp that declared war on us and then started using this cheeseball tactic when they realized we werent an easy target (like after the score was about 6 or 8 MF guys destroyed and podded to 0 MUC guys).

Sal didnt mention the corp by name in his post, but as I am a VP in the same corp as Sal, I can assure you that is is Mercenary Frigates he was talking about as thats the only corp we have ever been at war with.

Voogru is telling the truth.. we never hear him complain (too much) about losing his ships even though hes been the MUC record holder for destroyed Thorax's for the past several weeks.
