I had this idea for null sec about a means to make a sector more player driven and a little less baron intruding the drone hub its a building in space that would have a (X amount of bandwidth) to control a number of drones to the hubs allowance.
The way it would work on control you enter the hub interface it would be a system map where you can target objects in space to assign the drones to guard or assist this works in the same way carrier's can assign fighter drones to protect people AU's away.
The Ai of the drones would work in the same way turrets work with personal owned station that they can be assigned standing optional to fire on people with set standing's.
Example AI : If standings are set to anything below (x amount) standings towards the drone hub owners standing the drones would open fire on them.
With introduction of special drones that will only apply to these hubs this would also make space more interesting as you will see more ships such as the ORE capital ships outside the safety of a personal owned station bubble.

Renter wanting NPCs to protect him from the big, bad neuts.... enough said.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.

Wait, are you seriously suggesting roaming hobgoblin swarms to defend the few dozen gates to null? |

No its more the concept if ships can have drones operated by players then why cant a Pos owner there would still be limitation's but what people seem to be quoting there NPC driven so by the logic of some people here they want to remove all drones together if they had it there way...
This sort of negativity is the reason a idea with potential gets shunned... |

No its more the concept if ships can have drones operated by players then why cant a Pos owner there would still be limitation's like it use's special brand of drones and the hub would have a limit to how many it could use for the sake of balance. What people seem to be quoting there NPC driven so by the logic of some people here they would have remove drones all together if they had it there way because apparently nothing must be AI driven I am not saying they respawn from the drone hub they would still need to be restocked with new drones from players just as you normally would with restocking your ships drones what I am saying is a building in space cant do what almost every ship in eve can do and that is use drones. This sort of negativity is the reason a idea with potential gets shunned...
Drones in people ships are a ships weapons. With the exception of fighters, they are limited to a relatively small range around the player, and they only attack when told to or if their owner is agressed.
And even fighters have to be specifically told to attack by a person using the fighters. And they have to be told to attack while initially on grid with the target.
It is an exceptionally long way from drones as a players ship weapons to drones independently patrolling and attacking neutrals/reds as instructed, basing from a POS with tens of millions of HP, endlessly patrolling regardless of if anyone is around or not.
EVE is a game about players, not about NPC's. If you want to defend your borders, you as a player, or your friends need to do it, not a swarm of robo-terminators on patrol patterns.
And frankly his response was not even all that negative, compared to what you might find elsewhere here. Get some friends, and don't expect your gates to be robo-camped. |

Player owned stations are made by players, drone hubs would be weapons of said stations and drones can be made to assist or defend regardless of being a normal drone or fighter drone just fighter drones can warp to locations so that point of your argument is invalid and a contradiction.
Patrolling is just another word for guard point a to point b location on a loop I said you can assign them to guard a object in space similar to how carriers work when assigning a drone to guard a ally player thus making that point of your argument pointless.
yes EVE is a game about players but you clearly don't understand what NPC stands for if you did not know it means non-player controlled if a hub has been deployed and the player that owns the pos who deployed it has direct control of said hub that is connected up to the drones witch would make the drones the hubs weapon there for a player has programed the AI assigned to said object to do a task there for it is player driven not NPC.
yes his response was negative because it was dismissing the idea as a hole with no constructive criticism or any means to try and find a solution or reasoning to the subject matter. His response is no better then "lost a ship better buy a plex" |

The only way i could see this type of idea working...is the POS owner need the skill to take control of a POS weapon system (ie drone hub), has do so for it to work and the drones to work as you intend, and needs to be logged in obviously.
This means the POS owner or gunner is effectively stuck at the POS the entirety of being logged in.....and 1 more thing has to input some sort of code won from a mini game or somehting only for these bus every so often to help prevent afk play style of said hubs. |
