1st: Welcome to EVE. EVE is a challenging game, where the rewards are reaped from your own witt, intelligence and bravery. Patience is a virtue here! So if you value these, you are up for a breathtaking game!
2nd: Im sure a lot of people love WoW. Simply as to be since 6 mill people are playing it. However, on these forums, you usually need a flamesuit if you state that you come from a "wonderful game of WoW" So first step on these forums is: forget it and dont mention it. IM telling you this so u can have a nice and easier time on these forums
3. To the point.. Yes, EVE have maintainance. it is from 11:00am to 12:00pm every day. and that is pure GMT.
I hope you will like it here in EVE. I started in December 2005 myself, and I still find it just as great as on my first day ingame!
PS: A good subforum for new players you find Here. These forums are more "fireproof" then this forums. Just a tip
Good luck!

Hehe Thank you for the warm welcomes. I am indeed that kind of player, and this is precisely why I am here and not in WoW anymore: I wanted a more mature game, in a less cartoonish environment.

I understand. But when I said "wonderful world of WoW" I was ironic WoW is childish. Lets face it. And after a year of playing it has nothing really interested to offer... being too "instanced" to my taste. Besides its pvp system sucks horribly. And finally the lack of maturity of the community drives me out.

Well, it depends I think. WoW is fun and really untertaining from level 1 to level 60. When you reach level 60 you have basicaly only two things you can do: - run raids - play pvp The funny thing is that you need the raid-items to be good in pvp ;) (well, yeah, you're right, it's not funny at all) Without them you SUCK totally. So if you dont like raiding you're stucked. (and this is my story)
And well, we (all who know WoW) have to admit that even for the raiders, when you get to level 60, your exploring/travelling/visiting the world is over! You spend 80% of you time in the capital city between a mailbox and the Acution House and the rest on the time in instanced raids or instances Battle Grounds. So you have a "World of Warcraft", but you see only 1% of it, cause you simply dont need the rest anymore. Sad.
(I prefer posting that here, if I do it in the WoW forums I will flamed haha. Never mind, I am here, just as I said before for more maturity, in a less cartoonish game, and I am sure EVE can entertain me)

/\ What he said.
There's a daily hour of downtime, and they usually try to do patchdays on tuesday.
I'm guessing it's done on tuesdays because they're hungover all monday due to heavy weekend drinking.

If you're here for a more mature atmosphere you are going to be sadly disappointed. Ignore the tards, grow a little thicker skin and do what YOU want to do and have fun with it. It is your game and your time spent playing it, so don't let the words of others sway you towards that which you have no interest in.
Good luck and may the game last long enough for you to get as much enjoyment out of it as a lot of us have.

I am an old wow player, lvl 60 warlock, tier 2 gear.
I have seen it all, Ultima Online till now. You are right wow is fun from 1 to 60, after that there is nothing left.
Eve has no ques to to guide you, but once you find your purpose in the game, its more like lvl 1 to lvl 10,000,000 in wow. -----------

Welcome to Eve
remember you need to seek out things to do yourself. Its always good to join a corp that takes in new players, this way the start will be easier, and not as boring :)

Welcome to EvE , Bewildering to start with and even more bewildering as you play as you find more and more things to do with in the game itself, As for PvP their is plenty to go around even if you at that point in time did not want it, Especially in 0.0 space. You will loose ships your pod and the ship fittings this costs isk :) it is damn annoying but part of the game. These things happen, best thing to do get another ship with the insurance payout jump back in it and carry on because you wont allways be on the end of the podding you will be dishing it out some time. I have been here a year and only seen possabily 1/4 of what the game has to offer, Paitence is needed as you need to learn stuff this takes forever or so it seems. Enjy the game and have fun Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |
