Edited by: Kidd Billups on 01/10/2006 16:17:22 The time has come for me to decide weather to train for a t2 BC or t2 large energy turrets and t2 heavy drones. Im stuck. I'll bet your corp would love you in a command ship more than in a battleship with T2 guns. --- High quality pics of ALL EVE ships!

Command ships = great for your friends / team / corp mates. Command ships = not so great for you personally or financially.
net/net: train and fly command ships if you have a top-notch gang (T2 ships) who all have "*skin in the game*".
1. You fly command ship, pull out 250m in ship/kit 2. You get your gang running 3. You get called primary EVERY time. 4. You lose ship. 5. Gang says, *oops* *sry m8*; better luck next time. 6. You go back and try to figure out how to make up the difference in 150m in insurance value and 100m in kit.
Command ships don't show their *true* potential until you train up sicko skills in advanced leadership - then you get some sweet bonuses. That's a far cry from the basics. Fitting command modules almost always requires swapping in things like RCU2's for what would otherwise be damage mods or safety items (like WCS).
For the isk investment that I make in terms of the ship, kit, implants and the like - considering the payback, for the time being I'll pass: at least until the people I fly with learn to appreciate the advantages of having (and proitecting) a command pilot in their gang.
Most of the people we fly with (in all-out fleet operations, full-scale battles, etc.) are in disposable ships (t1 cruisers/frigs), and in some rare instances, BS's that they don;t care about losing.
It may sound selfish, but only when you have gangs of like-powerful (and expensive) ships do people really start to appreciate the benefits of command ships. Otherwise, drive a T1 BC and slap a command module on it.

The command ship does not need to warp in to the battle for its gang bonus' to apply. Why risk the ship and its fittings?

Command ships are cheaper than battleships once fitted. The only point you have correct is the insurance dfference. What CS costs 250m? Faction fit? Well faction fit BS caost far more than 250m...
Generally BS get called before CS because the BS do more dmg and people ignore they smaller icons on overview unless the have intel of you in advance, even then you usually wont' be called primary in a CS.
CFW (Certified Forum Warrior) I kill people ingame too. |
