Then explain to me how you 'see'. How do you operate controls on the hud? How is all that changed from ship to ship? I know im in my pod. I'm not saying the view shouldn't take that into account. If your argument is that from a 'roleplaying' sense to the point of view, being in a pod then having 3rd person perspective is pretty dumb. The option should be there to have first person perspective. That would be what I mean by*****pit POV. -----

Actually if you read through the scientific articles on the EVE website...just a click away since you're already there...you'll learn that the veiw of your ship and it's surroundings is fed from small remote cameras. This also explains why you can veiw something besides your own ship.

and? why not mount a remote camera to the front of your ship facing forward?

Zoom ship maximally. Move camper to view it from front. Keeping right mouse button, move camera around.
Tadam! Now You see forward view :)

Edited by: Reggie Stoneloader on 01/10/2006 23:48:34 I'm not a huge fan of the*****pit view movement, or the joystick control movement, or any of that sort of thing, but if there was some way to record the events in-game, then replay them inside the engine for film-making purposes, a few dramatic camera angles like that would be very welcome indeed.
Edit: How come "cawckpit" is censored in some posts, but not others? I tell you, this forum has the weirdest sense of decency.

You are inside a pod filled with some sort of liquid to protect you. Your whole body is hardwired via cables with the ship. You give every command with your mind and thats how you manage to command a ship alone. You are able to see outside your ship by using camera drones that sent the image directly to your brain through the cables. These drones can move so you can see your ship close or far away. Cockpit cant be added to the game cause that ruins the whole RP backround.

OH HOLY JESUS!!!! This argument with the camera is so retarded..I know it's there in the stories, but pls, U gotta understand this is the way ccp get away with it. I don't blame them atall..it's probably much work to make a functional cocpit view and controlsystem even, but this egg-story is just too redicolous. To be honest I think they don't fancy the idea too much themselves as they have introduced the fighters now..with NO stupid eggs.
The optimal would be (and I can't see no reason not) is if it was optional, atleast for frigs-crusiers for have cocpitview/ control. Dogfighting would bring fighting-/ pilotskills into the game, and not just like it's today with a good setup depending on ISK.
The action would climb to insane hights with this I believe..how it's possible with todays bandwidth I don't know..and this is everybodys favorite argument against all new ideas..
Yea I hear it already.."hey idiot, it's not a new idea, We want EVE just the way it is..change game..leave..all me need is a new module..don't change too much..don't evolve..bla bla!"
=)

you'd have to change the basic control system for it to work.. which is a big no-no.

its not that hard. the game already has free flight, essentially you could use your mad crazy dogpiloting skills if you just got really good at camera rotation and double clicking
the engine doesn't limit user defined movement, because thats all it is
now, it would add some neat goodness to the battles. as then theres the chance of doing some fancy dogfighting moves to dodge missiles. when it comes to rounds though, thats a roll of the dice so it doesn't matter if you're mobius one or daffy duck... you're gonna get shot down
a*****pit view is even easier to add than flight controls, you just fix the camera to roll and move with the ship. i think a button next to the zoom in zoom out controls for "lock view" that makes it so it stays attached to the ship would be nice. then i could position it however i need ( when circling a target i would lock it so its always looking at the target [ assuming they're stationary ] ) or i could do*****pit view or whatever else
you people make things sound way to hard, you'd be surprised how easy things are.

Edited by: Hykke on 05/10/2006 11:56:02 I don't really want a cokpit view, all I'd like to see is a way to "fix" the camera in relation to the ship movements, so that when your ship turns, the camera turns with it (keeping the same distance to the ship of course). The camera setting should of course survive docking and undocking, so that you wouldn't have to set it up constantly.
Edit: Oh that's what the previous post already said, sorry

Ahh, no, the whole idea behind the capsule is it's an egg filled with goo. Metaphorically, frigates, cruisers, battleships, etc. are nowhere close to the atmospheric fighters you see dogfighting in Top Gun. There's a reason they're named using Naval terminology, and not Air Force.
Eve is the strategic and tactical slugging of massive ships of war. Exchange a few volleys with the long guns, run an in-their-face broadside with the blasters, pile on as much canvas as you can to get away from a bigger, deadlier, but slower foe...
The "fighters" are just big drones. AFAIK they don't even have a non-pod-person inside controlling them, just an AI. Hence no*****pit. Even if they did have "people" inside, you're the pod pilot in the ship giving the orders. What you are not is Maverick doing an inverted high-g loop in a light atmospheric fighter jet, while flipping a MiG pilot the bird.
This is a space combat game, not a flight sim. You want a flight sim, get yourself a copy of Freespace 2 (one of the best space fighter sims ever!). Of course, in Freespace, Frigates, Cruisers, Corvettes, and Destroyers are all considered capital-class ships. Oops...again, no Mavericks in the Shivan faction Atron!

"New ideas"? You know it's not true. You know it well enough to predict, right in the following line, that people will tell you it's not true. This is not a new idea. It's old. Years old. So get off your high horse.

Incorrect, M'Hael, fighters are manually piloted (you can actually see the pilot =D).
Also, when you discuss 'dogfighting' you have to bear in mind that a frigate is about the size of a 747 airplane, IIRC. They're not small things.
Lastly, how would*****pit POV and manual piloting benefit you? After all, you can go first-person and manual all you like, but if you're fighting someone they're just going to let automatic tracking and firing deal with you.
