A nice idea i think, after reading the many posts about the fact frigates and cruisers cannot compete in the pvp / combat world. I would suggets a weekly regular event, whereby respected corps with battleships become referees in a low sec/pvp system, and allow frigate vs frigate wars, cruiser vs cruiser etc, any incorrect type of ship invading in on the involved players gets the attention of the referees and encouraged to gte the hell away, leaving the combatants to get on with it.
There should be a set place/time and rules for all this, if people could set suggestions perhaps this could be built on, i know id have a stab in a Cruiser League for a laff and some tension relief :)

They should build an arena for the new Amarr emperor. Selected galdiators can compeet in space where concord will not interfair. Maybe a station to sign up every week as gladiotor etc. The other races can send there gladiators. Would take time to develop but also a lot of fun

This is a terrific idea. After the frigate championships, I decided to do this for my corp alone, we just did it last night and it was great fun. I'd like to do another one with ours and another corp. Perhaps if it takes off it will get bigger. I also thought about what you are saying, but I was afraid if it got too big...some idiot kid would find out where it was being held, crash the party with his little pirate corp, and shoot everyone up just to be a *****.
I would definitely participate if you had one, especially a frigate one because the losses are miniscule if you lose.

I did this a little while ago with my friends corp. I was the first to die, mainly because a certain somone brought cruise missles *cough* if this does take off, cruise/torps should be outlawed as 2 cruise takes out a punny... lol

Is this a joke...... maybe you should try fighting in a Cruiser or in a frigate with a few friends. Frigates and cruisers can take out BS's if done properly, and one defender can take out a cruise missile or torp. All it takes is a little co-operation.

My old corp used to hold that weekly "Spire Corp" [SPGC], we did frigate arena fights for quite awhile, then we stopped. Its nice to think of starting it up again, but it is hard to find people to do so.
P.S. The way you fix the ss, is you make red team / blue team corps, the person joins for the duration of the period, or you hold it in 0.0 if a CEO wants to fight. Also the corp hosting is security (that was fun), if they try to pod the other person you pod them :D w00t

Like I posted in another tread there was a brialliant idea of someone (dunno who) who suggested a real arena for pvp while other people could place bets on their favourite player. I think that that idea rocks and can give eve that lill bit extra!!
Of course we would need ccp to help out on this, we cannot rely on 0.0 space and some protection in BS, there allways will be some ass who finds it funny to ruin others events.
Ohw and let me add to this that this should not be an event, but a whole new platform in eve.
However you can make a league on fixed days.
A nice christmas present I'd say!!!
I just thought of someting extra which could be included also: PvP races, make a race track with obsticals in the direct way so that you have to move around them, first to get at the end wins (possible also pink slips variant?) and gets the price they agreed on forehand.

I saw somewhere, I don't know if it was in a CSM log or somewhere else, that some sort of combat arena is an idea the devs have considered.

nice idea yes, but will not happen, needs too much organisation and alot of protection. as soon as pirate corps find out where and when this will happen they will do all they can to destroy it.
either get the pirates involved or get together a VERY large force to defend the system.
a better idea for this is for ccp to make som sort of arena where organised fights can take place where u hav the choice to fight or not and who against and in what ships etc. so no1 can enter the areana once the fight begins.

Frigates and cruiser hav a big role in pvp when they r used properly, especialy now since the latest patch.

With the new criminal flagging system it shouldn't be too hard to make some kind of deployable structure to use for tournaments.
The owner set's it up with regards to amount of ppl on each team.
The respective team members then shoot the deployable once to "register".
When the last person fill's his slot, a timer starts and when it expires the two teams are flagged as criminal towards each other, but with no sec status impact's.
Lot's of features could be built in like:
Target jamming competitors until the start of the match.
Shield/energy transfer before the fight
Remote repair
Shield transfer to secure pods
Warp Jamming to prewent ppl running away.
Scoreboard etc etc etc.
