WHY DO THE STARS IN EVE BLINK ???
maybe this questions was asked before. but it is really the one thing that annoys me about EVE.
Just in case you don't know: the stars seem to blink sometimes when watched from earth. Thats because of the atmosphere. In space no atmosphere, so no blinking. Okay? I dont know about you guys, but this effect really destroys the feeling of being in space for me. CCP PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE with lots of sugar on top, REMOVE THAT BLINKING !!! Thanks!

it's not because of the atmosphere but because of dust particles in the atmosphere covering the stars when passing their lightpath.
with all the traffic in EVE i'd guess there are lots of little particles from ship kills, roids popping aso. as you are mostly around warp points all the action happens there. therefore those particles are massed at those points and even if they move at very high speeds they can still occlude your view and so make the stars blink.
or maybe the occular of your camera drones is just poluted.. get some slaves out to clean them

You're not seeing the stars directly - they're a computer simulation of what's out there fed into your brain by your pod. The simulation is designed to be consistent with what the pilot expects, and so the stars twinkle.
Likewise, there are no sounds in space but you still hear lasers go "pew pew"

How could anyone get through the rather intensive pod pilot training and come out thinking that stars twinkle in space? I demand less twinkling and more stars. ----------

I find myself joining the geek brigade...
Stars blinking is funny enough, but the one that tickles me most is the redshift and blueshift when you are in warp. Sure these effects occur, but they're not usually visible to the naked eye. Additionally if you were travelling faster than light, the two effects would be stretched beyond our normal perceptive view of them, so they would be even less visible than normal. That's a presumption since I've yet to travel faster than light. I imagine everything would be black or white depending on whether you were looking forwards or backwards.
One more thing. Every system seems to be a inside a nebula. Where's the inky black oceans of empty space with nothing to see but distant stars? Seriously, if you manage to flip a tractored JetCan with your shuttle and you started 34Km away, it's a Macro in the hauler, make no mistake. |

Really depends on how you're getting above the speed of light though, as to how light is going to behave crossing the boundary between "normal" space, and the warp field. Because we have no RL ideas of how to do this practically, we can't really be sure what the properties of a working system would be. The shifting could end up being a property of the warp field itself, and unrelated to your actual velocity.
That's the great thing about warp, there's no RL precedent, so you can do pretty much whatever you want with it.

Well, I've always thought the entire Eve cluster must be inside a massive, dense nebula, which your pod systems filter out of the camera drone view into the background. Would not only explain the blinking stars, but also why the ships fly as though they are inside an atmosphere. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Stars blink because somebody thought it was cool. There are fancy blueish and reddish wallpapers in every system because somebody thought it was cool. Game designers must do stuff so it will look cool, otherwise few people would play their games (as in reality is painfully real).
The answer is simple, "It's cool." Go figure...
