Edited by: Silver Lady on 02/10/2006 10:26:37 In the dev blog by clover, it says this..
Finally, you need the racial Encryption skills to use the Data Interfaces. These skills are already in the game, but currently are associated with pirate factions (i.e. Angel Encryption Methods). Once Revelations hits the street these skills will be associated with the empires instead (so Angel Encryption Methods becomes Minmatar Encryption Methods). This does not affect those that already have the skill.
...
We can see that angel encryption methods and the others will change to minmatar encryption methods etc, but it then says that this does not effect those that already have the skill, what does that mean? It looks like it may mean that if you already have the skill trained then it wont change to minmatar encryption methods, etc.
These skills are very expensive and i dont want to have purchased and trained them only for kali to hit and find out my angel encryption skill did not change to minmatar encryption and i've now got a useless skill trained that cost me 400 million isk. I know other people want to know aswell, could you clear this up?
A simple way of putting it is, if i have trained angel encryptions before kali, when kali hits, will my trained angel encryptions skill change to minmatar encryptions meaning that i already have minmatar encryptions trained and wont need to train it again?

Well, a lot of people are getting these rare skills and selling them for a fortune to other players, sometimes over 400 mill per skill, theres going to be a lot of upset players, including me, if when kali hits my encryption skills are useless and i have to buy them all over again, not to mention the couple billion i blew on buying the various now-uselss encryption skills in the first place.

The way I read it they are just renaming the skills. This makes most sense.

I'd say that the studied skills must change to its faction equivalent.
Reason? Only those that have trained the angel, gurista etc skills prior to Kali will be able to build COSMOS items. And that doesnt make sense.
I think personally that the skill requirements for COSMOS items will change along with any trained COSMOS skills. Buy, meh, who am I? I don't even have a face!
Dev confirmation is required.
Thankyouplease. (like borat says)

That is the way i read it at first also, however after reading it again, i noticed more the bit at the end where it says "angel encryption methods will become minmatar encryption methods - this does not effect those who already have the skill" - That sounds to me like all encryption skills that existed before kali will not be renamed and will just become useless skills, much like mobile refinery operation.

When I readed the blog I came to the conclusion that they are just renaming those encryption skills, like from angel encryption to minmatar encryption.
And if you have the skill trained already you don't have to worry sinse they will just rename it and keep the levels trained, nothing more and nothing less.

That's what i thought to, till i really noticed the bit where it says "this does not effect those who already have the skill" So does that mean those that the skill wont be renamed for those that already have it? Making the current encryption skills completely useless.

Hmm Firstly there are 2 issues.
1. COSMOS items requiring NPC Faction skills (e.g Angel Encryption methods) 2. Invention skills requiring Player Faction skills (e.g Minmatar Encryption methods)
Now if invention requires Player Faction skills - I would be asking if these skills will be seeded on the market?
The Secon issue is what is going to happen to the COSMOS Skillbooks? --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

It's the same skill, which just gets a new name which is more future proof and prevents us from having to create new skills which both are doing the same. So if you have the skill today, you can do everything you could do before - it's only the name that changes.

Ok thanks, so this means my trained angel encryptions skill that i have right now will allow me to use minmatar data interfaces when kali hits?

But will these Encryption Books be seeded in Kali or not? At the moment people are selling them for outragious prices and before I even consider buying any I'd like to know if these books will be on the market in Kali. Seems odd they wouldnt be if they are going to be Caldari Encryption and the like.. would assume such books would be readily available and not just available from Pirate drops.

300mil isn't outragious for their current rarity and Im gonna go out on a limb and guess they'll be kept that rare to prevent the T2 market nose diving the moment kali goes live. Plus announcing wether they're going to be seeded is very unlikely as it would alter the economy in bad bad ways

I've seen them going for 500 or so lately, which in my opinion is outragious Anyway, no one seems to have asked the question, that I have seen, so I thought I would. Wether I get an answer is another matter entirely

Um, not saying whether or not they will be NPC market seeded in Kali has ALREADY altered the market in a bad way. The encryption books at best were in the mid 100 mil range before, now they're up around 300-400 mil? They radically increased demand overnight without any word whether supply will increase or not.

This is a flat out lie, it was first mentioned in the invention dev blog sticked at the top of this page. There has been no dev confirmation as of yet.

As stated in other threads now the encrption skills will only drop from the cosmos sites and the new profession sites they will not be seeded, the only skill been seeded to do with invention will be the base invention skill itself

well you can buy a skill for 500mil isk right now to find out that it is for sale by npcs for 50k isk in a months time
or you can wait and spend 600mil after kali if the skill is not npc seeded [which will also give you the option to see if the isk is worth the skill at all] could just end up being a +1% to chance of getting a t2 bpc per lvl
