Amarr seems to be an extremely hot topic lately, so I figured I would jump on the bandwagon. Im undecided whether to continue on my trek to Amarr greatness, or to give it up and roll with a FoTW setup (IE, training Gallente .. ). Gallente...dominates pvp with the right setup - much like Gankageddons used to. Theoretically, with the right skills, can Amarr still dominate with cruisers and below? The punisher is a kick ass ship, but honestly can't usually do much to anything above a T1 cruiser (minus gallente, of course), and even that is pretty difficult and requires a great amount of skills / equipment. Is Amarr even worth the trouble of training anymore?
Discuss..

Well, the Arbitrator, Curse, and Pilgrim are very, very good Cruiser-class ships. Amarr Frigates... well, they've always been a bit lacking, though the Punisher is definitely good. The Armageddon is also a great gang BS, though neither of the Amarr BS really do much for solo.
Eh.. that's about it. Retribution can be a mean little bugger if you've got tacklers in your gang, and Vengeance can work as a heavy tackler fairly well. Zealot is mediocre, Sacrilege sucks, Omen sucks.. *shrugs*
Amarr aren't totally useless(yet), but we aren't anywhere near the top, either.

The Arbitrator, Pilgrim, Curse , Archon, Aeon and Avatar are the only Amarr ships that people get worried about. The rest are pretty much a joke :) --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

The good thing is that if you switch to Gallente, you'll have the same ships (or better) in the form of the Iskur, Vexor, Ishtar, Dominix, and the upcoming tier2 battlecruiser.

I don't fly amarr or gallente but I can tell you one thing I have learned from almost 8 years of MMO experience. You can train fotm now but you will be crying when they get nerfed like the amarr people are crying now. Or you can train what you like to play and have fun no matter what happens. By the time you et T2 ammo, T2 gallente ships and T2 heavy drones they will probably be nerfed and where will you be then? Training for the next FOTM?
If you don't mind the fact thatgallente may be nerfed before or shortly after you can actually use their ships go ahead and train for them but if the idea of training a race just to have it nerfed makes you cry train the most appealing.

Edited by: Ogdru Jahad on 02/10/2006 20:41:22 With my previous chr who flew mostly ammar all his pvp kills bar one were in amarr ships.
His first real pvp kill was in a raven and killed a Sacrilidge. then his buddies flew ina nd toook me out.
rest were mostly in a zealot and then absolution, had kills in a sacrilidge, Purifier, crusader, pilgrim, curse and a geddon... as you can see i used to be multi talanted.
bottom line. you do what you want. I love my amarr ships and will always train them above all else. gallente is slated on the list only once i am in my beloved absolution.
Love this chr tho. living up large

no amarr cannot pvp at all. That being said you're only option is to whine and whine and whine about cookie cutter setups not working and never think up setups for yourself.

Amarr and Caldari both work best in gangs for pvp
Gallente and Minni can do solo work better
That's all there is to it imo.

Good info throughout - as for what I want, honestly I can't answer that =] I like drones, but at the same time there is nothing like the pew pew of some lasers :D I would consider myself more a soloer than one to gang - Amarr used to be the king of solo until they nerfed lasers. Now Im not so sure =] Zealots are kick ass solo ships from what I understand, any truth to this? Thanks in advance =]

zealots were kickass solo ship, the stacking nerf basicly made them much weaker and ecm is quite harsh against amarr. anything with less then 4 mids has a hard time soloing now days.
zealot work better in small gangs now

Ive only been playing 6 months and im looking into some PVP Now i seem to have chosen Amarr on the log in screen all those weeks ago thinking, oh these guys look rather amusing.
What a mistaker to maker.
All amarr ships work well in small gangs, is the answer to the problems we face. In other words All amarr work well in gank squads, hopelessly outnumbering their target.... Does that not apply to every races ships anyway.
There should be a warning on the creation screen, THIS RACE HAS BEEN NERFED. YOU MISSED THE GLORY DAYS, ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO CONTINUE?
Im getting Fed up of MMOs where the balance see saws backwards and forwards, right now im guessing that Amarr is at rock bottom unless you enjoy giant laggy (boring) fleet battles, where if your number comes up You get insta gibbed by 20 other battleships targeting you... where is the fun in that..

when i mean small gangs i mean 5v5 or even 2v2
a BB zealot works great, the BB jams and you rip the other ships apart. however 1v1 a zealot will be jammed, nossed, and eventually killed. it has no drones, 3 med slots and the guns eat all is cap. so it really isn't a soloship. but with someone doing the ew for you you're all good to go.

Making Amarr work PvP is like making any ship work pvp, you have to know and use the ships strengths. Amarr are good at two things: Medium range dammage and survivability (they are tough). They are not good SOLO PvP ships because solo pvp craft must work well at short range to use the scrams and webs, and have the slots to fit such gear. Galente with an armor tank fit the bill nicely, good short range dammage and enough mid slots to really make it work.
Amarr ships are team ships when it comes to pvp. Their role is dammage. With other team members to handle the tackling, ecm, etc, they do their job just fine. The problem comes when someone takes a Mauler, tries to fly it like a Thorax, and pronounces it "teh suck" because it didn't work.
I wish more people could seperate "PvP" and "solo PvP" when they post. Just because a ship is bad at one doesn't it make it bad at the other.
