On the first glance, it seems like an incredibly bad idea. But on second look, it's extremely viable.
You get INCREDIBLE resists with almost no cap use with damage controls. 3 nonnamed Damage Controls would give you above 80% (at least I think, haven't calced it out) resists across the board and with some reinforced bulkheads could yield quite a bit of protection. On top of this, the resists and hull increasing mods are all low slots.... but the hull repairers are mid slots!!
Now I don't know if I ever want to try this, if something goes wrong there's no telling how quickly you'll go, but the tanking potential is definitely there.
So my question is.... what do you think of it? Doable, impossible, or your new tank setup? How about actual implementation, have you ever seen someone use it?

You can only fit one damage control. ---

You can only fit 1 damage control per ship, so... no. --- High quality pics of ALL EVE ships!

Now that I know, it's still an option. A single DCU can get 58% resists across the board, giving effectively more than double the Hull HP. How about then?
EDIT: and the second, I've never had a fitting take damage, even though I've seen them in the repair shop as having HP, do they take damage?

Reason number two why not to hull tank. When your hull takes damage so does your fitting.

third reason would be that hull reppers take way to long and boost only so little

It's easy for that to happen when lots of people know the answer. And they know the answer because the question is a popular one. :)

Yep, You can also install reinforced bulkheads to give yourself a percentage boost on top of your base structure. The problem is the 30 second cycle time on hull repairers, and the small amount of hull repaired per cycle. Compare that to a shield booster or armor repper. Granted, if you used 4 or 5 of them, you could get a repair every 5 seconds or so, but the fitting would be hell on wheels. Shield boosters are easier to fit. They take more cap, but repair with a much shorter cycle time. Armor reppers are similar in comparison to hull reps.

Fittings take damage, and cost money to repair, but they are never any worse for wear. Guns with damage never fire more slowly or do less damage, etc. The only real downside to having damaged modules is you can't repackage them for sale until you repair them. ---
