I've heard alot about mining the omber/kernite in this mission. Seems to me that hauling the ore would be annoying, having to use the acceleration gate to get in. I guess you could tractor the cans to the beacon, but meh. Is there a way around this?

yes mine it all into jetcans, and keep shuffleing the ore to newer cans every 60mins or so...then bookmark the spot, go back finish mission. get in hauler and warp straight to the cans... no acceleration gate to worry about.

Or just do it in a mining op, 1 expanded out hauler can just about keep up with 3 barges if he doesn't take any breaks.
Like the previous reply said, the only way to get around it is to flip cans til the mission is turned in... at 1.2m omber and 350k kernite... that's a lot of cans to keep track of.
At current kernite prices it's a pretty good moneymaker if you want to waste the time.

Last I checked, any bookmarks made in a deadspace pocket took you to the gate to it, not directly to it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Support fixing EVE's UI here |

Edited by: Kallria on 03/10/2006 16:02:30 I have to ask, I've tried mining the omber using 2 accounts. Neither has a mining barge (working on that for the second account) but I did have an apoc and a Armageddon, although the Armageddon only was in use about 1/4th the time due to having to haul too. But even with 8 miner II's, and given the time it takes to mine all the omber, it really seemed that I would make more money just turning in the mission and continuing running a few more missions.
Do you guys really feel it's worth the time to mine it? Meanwhile giving up the LP's and getting you closer to storyline missions? It seems that in the time it took me to mine it, I could have ran at least 2-3 missions which would have net me the same or more isk, and I wouldn't have been bored to tears. And I even hear people will farm this mission for the omber all week long?
Edit: Sorry, was thinking of a different mission with Omber in it on the first stage. But the rest of my post still stands.

Some would say it's worth it to stop and mine, but I think you'll find that most of those people either have good mining related skills or a full fledged mining/hauling alt.
I'm not one of those people. For me it's scarcely worth my time to mine when I can get more out of doing more missions. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Support fixing EVE's UI here |

Keeping this mission open for Friends of your corp who could use with the cash injection is a good idea. we had this mission going yesterday, i spent a little bit there got like 25k of kernite and ive just made like 30m out of it. not to shabby really. get a mining op going for all the noobs in your corp! I think the Kernite is worth mining. You'll need it for one of the important missions or you can sell it to those who need it.

I have another account with a character who pilots a hulk, I do a mission or two and come back with this character and haul. I got into a position where I could hit 4 or 5 'roids, and kept transfering the ore into new cans. The thing that turned me off, was that it took me forever to haul all of it. I suppose I could have just turned in the mission and stopped mining to pick it all up. The thing is though, that I'm trying to find something to do with this other account.
At first, the barge was my primary source of income, but then I started doing level 4 missions and just stopped logging in on the other account. Right now he's ninjamining ice in a mackinaw fitted with local hull expanders(8k+ cargo).

Uber $#*%-ing carebears. Mining in a mission omfg.
K here goes my advice: Raven goes in and shoots the rats, miners warp to raven and sit at the gate waiting for the stage to be cleared. Miners warp in and position themselves between the warp in point ("can" it) and the omber roids. try to keep within in 20 km range of the "can"-point. Hauler fits for cargo and takes one tractor beam. Hauler has made a bookmark for isnta dock in station (preferable one that is in line with "can" point and roids). When hauler warps to gang member he will end up at gate, he uses the gate and warps to "can point". He than tries to use the tractor beam asap to get the can to him. He loots the stuff and warps back to station. Hence and repeat.
This is almost the same as with a normal OP btw so I have absolutely no clue why you guys didnt think of this. . Seriously Have I Not Said How I Can Assist Some One You Are Killing Online? |

Kinda off topic, but I found it's very effective to have your second account follow you around in missions in a hauler with dual tractors and lows filled with nanos. He carries my extra ammo and boost charges, and carries away all the loot in one go. This is especially useful when your doing a mission 3 jumps away. No more trying to loot in a slow battleship and still having to run back to your station to get your hauler after the mission to grab the cans. Doing it this way makes it really worth it to pick up cans. Hauling away 1-3km3 of trash is really nice on the pocketbook, and nets me enough minerals to build ships without having to mine, save for the insane amount of trit needed.
Oh, and never mind you get to make use of those leadership skills since you'll be ganged in the same system. That extra shields and lock range is nice.

Yeah it starts this way, a second account following you around looting in an indy, then you think "well I could use a little extra dps to speed this up, and maybe some cap transfer in case things go bad" and before you know it you have 2 battleships tearing thru 4's and need a 3rd acct to loot now. =p
My indy acct turned into a fully faction/t2 fitted raven missile spammer and is now the "main" for missions over my domi.

Ya, my second account has an apoc and an Armageddon and been thinking of bringing that along, for more drones and more dps in general as well as maybe some group bonuses (logistics). I do run them on separate computers side by side. But like you said, then I'd need another account to haul. And for now, I'm quite content with my current setup. It's easy to work and really, I'm flying a well fitted Raven, do I really need anything more?

sadly this wont work quite the way you have depicted it. alot of these missions are in deadspace complexes, and if you want to keep the mission open to havest rats and ore every dT, then the haulers need to run a gate guantlet. there is no way to jump to a bm inside a deadspace pocket, you'll only make it as far as the acceleration point, and if the op is 3 jumps into the complex, thats 3 jumps the hauler must do, and 3 approaches to the point, every time they approach the must do the run.
jumping to the station is no problem.
