Hi
I am a Gallentean Pilot and have joined some mates who have a Corp. Just wondered if the fact they are all Caldari and I am now based in Caldari space and mining there, will that make a difference. i.e. would I get a better yield etc if I was a gallentean in Gallente space?

Edited by: Silmenel on 03/10/2006 14:19:42 it makes no difference at all
you might want to raise your caldari standing though - so you can use agents near your homebase or get better refining quotes at your home station (in case there are only caldari agents around and your home base is also caldari-owned)
EDIT: mixed up who is gallente and who calfari in this case _______

Thanks, any pointers on how to raise my standing quickly, i.e. train social skills v. doing missions for agents i can use which are 8-9 jumps away?

Running missions is the way to raise your standing. Social skills just make everything you do have a slightly bigger impact.
You can be a Gallente running missions for Caldari, and your Caldari standing will go up fine. Be aware, however, that Caldar and Amarr are pals while Gallente and Minmatar are pals.
How does this matter? If you run Caldari missions, your Caldari standing will go up, and over time your Amarr standing will go up also, to a lesser extent. However, both your Minmatar and Gallente standings will go down.
Even if you just plan on working in industry, it pays to get your standing up with one of the NPC factions/coporations. When you're refining ore, the station you do it in takes a cut as a fee. When your standing with that NPC corp gets high enough, they reduce and then eliminate the fee entirely. You may also want your standing up high enough to use jump clones in Empire space, among other things.

Not entirely true. Training Connections skill will give you a +0.4 to all corp, faction, and agent standing. So training Connections to lvl 4 will give you +1.6 standing without doing a single mission. However, you need to have some standing (i.e. 0.01) in order for it to take affect, so you have to do at least one mission (AFAIK). Also If you have negative standing with a corp, faction or agent you can train diplomacy and it will increase your standing with those negative ones potentially bringing you out of the negative.

If you stick to level 1 missions, you don't have to fight the other factions at all, so it won't impact your standings with them.
By level 2 missions, as gallente, you have to fight caldari ships (and vice versa), which slowly lowers your standings against them. However, as posted above, your social skills can help in that regard.

You can just skip those missions... and your rep with the other side will fall regardless of if you are actually killing thier ships. Killing their ships just lowers it quicker.
