Today I was conducting a pre war "commando" op against a corp (that shall stay nameless), I was flying around the system doing my work with everyone being complete ****ers in local.
I dont get it, just because I have a low sec/am shooting you/your friends, WHY do you have to act like complete ****heads, you instantly assume that I am also a complete ****head. So just to prove I am not a complete ****head, I convo'ed one of the people smack talking at me explaining my reasons for shooting at the involved, my reasons why I got into piracy and why we do what we do as pirates. It didnt take long before we added each other to Addressbooks, in game and on other out of fame messaging services. Thus proving that open minded people can get along regardless, however those that have the maturity of a 11 year old that constantly cuss and ***** because you shot at them get nowhere, merely ****ing everyone off and making enemies.
So my questions:
WHY do you people hate us (we just want to be loved (in some cases anyway, there are lots of people that deserve what they get))?
And why the hell do you people not just learn to equip your ships better? ----- [22:02] <Kurenin> anyhow, on a more serious note, what did you think of those ideas? [22:02] <Hammerhead> we can't do anything that requires programming

I think most people just identify with their character/stuff too much. When you start attacking their character/ship/ore cans they take it as an attack on themselves. Especially the younger crowd.
It's not just the carebears who act like this, though. I hunt with the CFS (according to smoked, that makes me a "carebear pirate", heh). About half the pirates we hunt fall right into the 11 year old smack talking chump camp. The rest are typically decent people. I think probably pirates have fewer smack talkers than carebears because you fight more often than most...

Problem is people think that becuase you play a pirate that you a bad person in RL. Hence they take things personally, and start swearing and threating you.
Y'all need to realise this is a game, and detach yourself from any notions of RL.
Cao Cao dropped a gem on us with this catchphrase:
'You are not your ship'
Always remember that. Because it's true.
Doen't matter if you spent 16 weeks mining for your BS. You are not your ship.
Doesn't matter if your corp got robbed. You are not your ship.
Doesn't matter if someone charged you 10mil for Miner2's 3 months ago and you are still broke today. You are not your ship.
Doen't matter if you thought a 0.4 was safe and you jumped in to insta-death. You are not your ship.
And I hate the 'you've cost me xxx time' complaint. You havent lost any earnings, you weren't working, you were playing a game like me, paying the same damn subscription, so why should your time be worth anymore than mine?
Sorry to do a 'Jade' with the long post but this craps been getting under my skin for a while so lets stop talking things personally and have some damn fun.

At the end of the day its whether people can maintain a degree of respectful interchange in communication. I don't care if you are a pirate, a carebear, a neutral or whatever, if you make an effort to speak like an adult you will have a fair degree of respect from me.
In my time in Eve I have had all sorts of put-downs and appalling smack talk directed at me and I hardly ever blow people's ships up, so I surmise this disrespectful nonsense is not entirely directed at pirates.
I have found strong emotional connection to anything is the key though; if you threaten something these people hold dear, be it, their corporation, their illusions, their perception of power, their resolve, their esteem, whatever ... then the immature mind unconsciously gear-shifts to smack mode in reflex self defense.
Some of the "intellectual thinkers" of old TTi were the very worst for making "high brow" smack ... I remember one guy psychoanalysed me with an amateur diagnosis that named me a manic depressive suicide risk and predicted I would rl kill myself after TTi was destroyed ... that one was pretty special.
On the other extreme the kiddies of M3G4/Biomass are pretty poor for 13yr old playground muppetry. It's all repetition and "nyah nyah" yaaa boo sucks ... (which is their basic strategy for cunningly attempting to get a war enemy to move from a prepared position.)
These guys have all the critical finesse of parrots on steroids and although its fantastically easy to construct put-downs, the sad thing is they never notice getting linguistically owned - a bit like shooting a grazing dinosaur in the head and missing the brain by twenty feet.
So, I don't think the pirates are the only people that get sad act abuse.
There are idiots in all walks, and pirates are certainly not immune to the diruetic smack gene.
Love and peace

I am beginning to think that I¦m the only player in eve that has played since beta that has not been killed by a pirate. all the times I have meet a pirate (and that is only 3 or 4 times) they 1/ only got about 5% of my shield down. 2/ I fought back and they ran (newbie pirates) 3/ I killed the pirate. and its not becurse I¦m only in empire space.. well right now I¦m mostly in empire space but the first 4 month of retail I was in either Domain, Fountain or Curse so I have had many chances to meet some pirates but never really did.. plz meet me some day so I can see if my setup is good enough on my megathron, can allways get a new one.

This is the *one* thing that sometimes comes out of EVE that I really hate: Sometimes I find myself having to retrieve my jaw from the floor in disbelief at the immaturity of some of the players I come across. Not just pirates, not just carebears, but everybody within EVE.
Our corp does its best to keep the pirate "riff raff" out of our neighbouring systems to protect our miners and traders. Because of this I have been on many "group outings" with corp members and friends from other corps.
All goes well until local (or even gang chat) turns into juvenile smacktalk which, quite frankly, depresses me. Don't get me wrong, I like to chat to the pirates in local, and especially enjoy a bit of humorous RP banter when I can get it, but when it turns into mindless smacktalk I usually pack my bags and leave (and I've even done this because of childish smacktalk from my own gang members against either me for being too "nice" to the pirates, or about the said pirates that we're supposedly hunting).
To be fair, piracy in this game has unfortunately been given a bad name by some due to exploits, or by smacktalking themselves. Due to the (relatively) small number of players who have taken this role within the game, many pirates get tarred with the same brush. I have to say that it's usually been the more, ummm... "amateur" PC pirates that have bred this bad reputation, and these are usually the ones that fall into my category of "wholly incompetent"
But I have to agree with Jade on this one: Sadly, we do have one too many players that take the whole game waaaay too seriously, and this goes for players on both sides of the law. Usually, the first ones to shout "griefer" are the afk halfwits, and the ones who cry "carebear" are usually the ones that smacktalk in local, then run when two cruisers begin to hunt them down.
/emotesighs
Please note that the views expressed above are those of Gai Daigoji and not necessarily those of the JGR corporation. |

Think that particular attitude is just a question of getting used to loosing ships and not getting too attached. But you might be stuck with the smack talkers :( --------------------------- Gone!, Forgotten! and not even Logged |

To all: You can completely disregard any post from anyone from Crusaders 10000ad. Crusaders tried to extort money and or ore from our corp in return for not declaring war on is. Before they war delcaration I recieved hatemail from many of them and thier alt, generally indicating their lack of respect for carebears in general and me personally. Pre-war, they conducting many hit and run raids on some of my newer members and infiltrated with alts to do some stealing of low level loot and ships. Sinve the war became official, there has been no sign of them. The fact is, they are a bunch of windbags and couldn't participate in a real war if they wanted to. So why hate pirates? Becouse you are thieves and liars. I have no respect for people like that in RL and none for them here.

Some reasons why people despise pirates:
-It is how we are brought up. Our society teaches us that thiefs and murderers are BAD PEOPLE. They need to be caught and punished.
-Pirates destroy things with which we have an emotional attachment. If you spent weeks getting a ship only to have a pirate blow it up you are going to be very bitter. We identify with our characters and ships. It's what makes roleplaying games fun. It might not be rational but otherwise this game reduces to just a bunch of statistics. It's similar to when your mother throws out your favourite 'lucky' shirt. The shirt might be worn out and not really fit to wear in public but losing it still hurts. The brand new ship the pirate just blew up might be just a bunch of ones and zeros but it means something to you.
-Frankly the ability to get even with a pirate sucks in this game. If you can't get back at the pirate for podding you, your resentment is just going to grow. There is no sense of sportsmanship in the game. No one wants to play against a stacked deck.
-Finally, piracy tends to attract the griefers and exploiters. One jerk pirate can easily sour a player against all pirates even those who are just trying to 'play the game'.
