A few minutes ago I got into a fight with a cruiser and lost. I landed within a few kilometers of a Celestis in my heretic and was promptly destroyed. I couldn't but to frustrated at this because I could have survived and ultimately escaped had I realized that upon landing on grid with that target, activation of the microwarp drive failed. As to why it failed is unknown, but because of its failure I was unwittingly moving away from the target with the speed of a tortoise with a broken leg. The loss itself is unimportant however, because it again reminded of the stunning fact that there are no module activation confirmation sounds for activating modules through the use of hotkeys or shortcuts.
Normally when clicking on a ship module the UI makes a familiar,"ping" sound when the module activates or deactivates; however, when using hotkeys to perform these actions that sound isn't present. This may only seem like a minor thing, but due to the ever present lag in EVE, and just the nature of pressing button keys in a hurry, this can lead to a relative ambiguity of whether or not a module actually activated or not; whether it was because of a missed button press, attempting activation before leaving warp fully, or server lag simply ignoring the command. Granted one can simply look down at the module to see if it actually activated, but often enough there is a lot of information to process and this doesn't always grant leniency for double checking to make sure the most basic function behaved as it should. Often enough what this results in are, double "clicking" the shortcut, inadvertently deactivating the module, or the aforementioned lack of awareness of inactivation.
This seems like a pretty simple fix, and I am surprised it even exists at all seeing as thousands of people have probably had similar experiences. Do the right thing. Add the ping sound to keyboard hotkeys. It only makes sense. Otherwise classical conditioning will send us all to oblivion. |

So long as we have the option to disable it and it's not forced on us, +1 \o/ |

Furthermore there should be a visual indicator that makes it crystal clear when a module cannot be activated. A module that cannot be activated should be darker and redder, similar to how offline modules are darker and greyer.
