oh yeah those audio logs are awesome, probably some of the best voice acting in a game ive ever heard, to me they sound so well done its creepy, I really think it would be a far less immersive game without those logs.
About the ammo problems: **possible spoilers in this paragraph, and trust me if you are thiking of playing the game for the first time you DONT want spoilers** if you read the SS2 faqs on gamefaqs.com they say to avoid using any ammo until you reach level 4, I have not tied this myself but apparently its possible to melee all enemies for the first 3 levels, that way you should have enough ammo saved up to finish the game. Also you can use the lift to store stuff in, its a place you vist many times and its not too hard to get to, it also keeps whatever you drop in it as the game enviroment seems to be persistent, things stay how you left them even when you move between areas and get the loading screens. -----------------------------

I just beat System Shock 2 for the first time. Yes, yes, I never played it when it came out.
I cannot possibly stress how much this game kicks ass.
Many of you who haven't played it may think Half Life is the best storyline-based first person shooter ever.
It aint. Its second.
Yes, it pwns muchly.
But im afraid you're wrong, HL keeps its title because System Shock 2 is actually an rpg not an fps
Nah, its an FPS with RPG elements .
Still an FPS. You're in the first-person, shooting things, in real-time

I think Bioshock will be a watered down console game like Deus Ex 2 was compared to Deus Ex 1. How accurate your mousing skills are simply didn't matter quite as much in DX2. And the world in DX2 didn't feel nearly quite as huge and spacy as DX did.

I loved this game when it came out, scared the crap out of me. Never having enough ammo and the creepy sounds made this a really atmospheric game.
System Shock 1 and Ultima Underworld were also classics that kept me going for ages, the first ever fps style games I played, released even before Doom if I remember correctly. I tried to install them a couple of years ago and couldnt get them to work on XP.

That is partly because of their want to inclued about a million moveable object everywhere you went. When that game 1st came out I had what would have been considered a monster rig at the time and it still ran 80% below 30fps. -------------------------------------- http://digitalsdomain.spaces.live.com/ <--- Check it out.

Some quick googling can get you a guide to making System Shock 1 work on XP. Its about 20-30 minutes of installing various programs, copying various files, and setting some settings. But it works great once its done.

I first played System Shock 2 when I was about 10 (when it came out). I loved it, but my trousers became brown.
More recently (3-4months ago), I played through it again. It really is the game of win.

No, Bungie software made "Pathways into Darkness" and the "Marathon" trilogy, and they were on the Mac to begin with.

I'd never heard of SS before btw, getting hold of a copy now, sounds like fun. Can make a good companion to Marathon, which is the only FPS ive ever installed on this PC... ----------------
