Hi all!
Some of you may remember me from my frustrated 1st day post(s). Thought I would let you know how I am getting on a few days later.
Firstly thanks to those who helped me getting the game running in the first place, have used teh "Evedude" program a few times since in order to get the game running. Thankyou! ----------------------------------------------- I managed to get into the game, and full of nerves and expecting to get blown up by someone in a BS as soon as logged in (having read these forums before playing)I was a bit (pleasantly) surprised to be left alone.
I completed the tutorial on how to move around and such, got the first 'roid mined and got into the station. Got the trainer Agent tutorial missions done, all the time training up my skills.
Got severly annoyed at being disconnected and not being able to play again (see prev posts) with little to no help from officalsupport. (I actually got an email about that issue yesterday, wow only 5 days after I sent it, big help) but thanks to these forums got back into it.
Got confused over skills, read up info about it on websites and these forums, and got on track (although not totally happy with decisions made at char creation, decided to go for it).
Got confused again when everyone is going on about the learning skills, when I only have 1 available to train which was Int. Figured out I had to buy the rest after a bit.
Went out with the starter ship, in the training area roidbelt, still paranoid about getting blown away by a BS. Got my first full cargo of ore, felt pretty good about it went and sold it! Moneeeeeyyyy!!! Wooohoo! All 5k or so of it!! I was rich! Looked up the prices on the market of a nice sounding gun, felt extremley poor
Got an agent mission, and completed it, all the while learning from these missions a bit more about the game. Spent some cash on skills! Then had to figure out how to go pick them up
Picked them up. Done more agent missions, with mining in between, realised can do both same time usually, and that it was very very unlikely a bad ass pirate would come along and blow me away. Relaxed a bit Got some more cash coming in! And faster!
Done this for what felt like forever, then, I got 2 new Agent contacts from my trainer Agent! Felt really good! Real progress!(at this point kudos to the devs the training/tutorial bit is pretty good).
BOUGHT MY 1ST REAL SHIP!! MAN I FELT THE KING OF EVE!!!! 57,000 ISK man I worked damned hard for it, I even insured it!

Moved all my stuff to the station the new nearest Agent was in, and done more of the Agent missions. Bought and trained more skills, started getting some good returns on my mining runs (relativley), things were looking up! Bought some Miner 1 guns, took a HUGE chance (I was really nervous about this bit) and went to a roid belt in 1.0 space WITH NOTHING BUT MINER 1's! That's right folks! I was brave enough to drop my civilian cannon and use 2 miner guns instead!! I absolutley shat myself going out like this 1st time - what would happen if someone shot at me?? I couldn't do anything about it!!! Felt a real risk taker
Bought some more add ons (cargo expansion & better guns). Got a kill a NPC misson from the agent. Started looking for the quicksave button. jumped to the bookamrk location (took a good time to figure THOSE out, essential!). Jumped back in a hurry to remove miner guns and fit my projectile guns
Jumped back out and took him on man to man! Well, man to NPC anwyay! Sat there while he shot at me, trying to figure out how to shoot my guns. Jumped to nearest base to rest my battered ship, and read manual and websites.
Jumped back to his location....AND SOOOOO KICKED HIS ASS I FELT LIKE A GOD. He even dropped an item for my loslot to make my ship gofasta!!! I think it was a red stripes paint upgrade. Or something. Felt great, starting to love this game!!!
Repeated similar to above many many times. Started to hate this game.
Got an Evemail from several people about joining their corp. Checked them out. Applied to two. No news from one. Got nice evemail from the other. Looked into them in more detail, while mining.
Joined the Corp today!! Couldn't have asked for a better welcome, with lots of help and tips. Really has given me an incentive to play, some goals to work toward, some instant help to my idiotic questions, some fun!! Get in a good corp if your new it helps soooooo much!

That's a great story and reminds me of my first days in beta. Except I shot the first thing I saw and was promptly owned by CONCORD. I didn't think a derelict ship would be all that bad to shoot at. Little did I know we'd still have that derelict ship bug a year later.
Anyway, good luck with BIG and make them buy you a battleship. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Your post takes me back...way back. :) The first few weeks of discovery were probably the best weeks in eve, not that I'm not having an awesome time now 8 months later but its so cool to read how you're learning the ropes. If you get stuck with anything or need some advice feel free to give me a shout in game.
Enjoy.

... I was somewhat expecting a "Got podded by a pirate, lost everything, i quit." punchline. :s
Nice to see it's not the case. Good luck with your EVE adventure, Mr.Coch... =)

What a wonderfully refreshing and good natured post. Although like jOsephine, I was expecting an "I got podded" punchline too.
As a fairly new player myself, I wish you all the best here in EVE and I agree with you, joining a fantastic corp is key to having a good time in the game. Gives you a place to call home.

I didn't actually read your post, since it had so many smileys and emotocons, I decided that I could read just those...
So this is what i got out of it...
the game is really cool for you, then something ****es you off, then you are happy something went right, but then you do something dumb and are very embarrased, but then you recover and then something again ****es you off... but you are able to move on with your life and over all you feel things are cool...
right?

I was expecting the got podded by a grifer part to I must say :) I like this bit though
Quote: I absolutley shat myself going out like this 1st time - what would happen if someone shot at me?? I couldn't do anything about it!!! Felt a real risk taker Laughing
That feeling is priceless :) And you wouldnt get that feeling if the game was a carebear haven! I well remember that feeling! Although fortunatly for me back then a pirate was in a frigate and not a BB ha ha!!

Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

ahh the ups and downs of a new life in eve. when you get a high level frigate grab a few mates and go kill npc's in the belts of a 0.4 system. just check the map for local podkills first

Ah sweet memories ;) Nice post monsieur Coch, and very very familar echoes. I remember top-of-the-world feeling of a brand spanking new Imicus just like yesterday.
And can't help but feel you have done very well with BIG, they are an excellent corp.

It was so good to read your post, you have no idea!!
It reminds me of when I first installed eve back in beta. The same doubts, the same fears. It's amazingly nice to discover the world of EVE bit by bit.
Use your common sense, take a safe approach in the begginging, eveything should be fine.
Good luck! _______________________________________________

Yeah, great read - good to hear you got back on your feet after the distaster of day one.
brought back a lot of memories.. Ahhhh, I remember my first real ship.. I also remember being followed by a pirate on my way back to HQ and subsiquently getting podded... so I bought another one!.. and was podded again.. trying to convince my corp to buy me more ships got a little tricky after that!

Ah. Nothing like my start as I started when the game was launched. Bistot fields on your doorstep, convoys laden with goods which did .1 damage when firing back etc etc etc...
Ah, those were the days ....

Outstanding post, Draig Coch! I think I did nearly the same thing you did when I started. The time you just spent solo was well spent, at least it seems you've got a firm grasp of how everything works.
You've joined what seems to be an outstanding group of players too, congrats. =)

Great story! Glad you're having fun and have found a good corp. Reminds me of my first few days in the game too - although I had a bit of help from my husband who had been playing the game a while before I started.
Keep us updated on how you do, and keep enjoying the game :)

Awesome Post!! As everyone's already said, that brings back some great memories. I remember my first probe (80k back then) like it was yesterday!
Enjoy the corporation and it's benefits. It is a wealth of knowledge and experience waiting to be taken advantage of so you can excel at lightning speed.
Good luck to you!
